Battle of White Marsh, Battlefield Pennsylvania

(2019) At the Battle of White Marsh on Dec. 5–8, 1777, British and Hessian troops under Gen. William Howe tried to dislodge colonial soldiers under Gen. George Washington from a formidable position on hills north of Philadelphia where they were encamped during the Philadelphia Campaign. After several days of running battle and skirmishing, Howe retreated to British-occupied Philadelphia, and Washington went into winter quarters at Valley Forge where he saw to it that his raw troops received better training. Battlefield Pennsylvania airs Sunday, Sept. 15 at 6 PM on cable and the PCB Select streaming service.
