Sheep Showmanship | Bloomsburg Fair at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds.
00:00 - Hi, I'm Jeff Kiggers, Superintendent of Livestock at the Williamsburg Fair.
00:04 - And right now we're going the 4-H reading show
00:08 - sheet, sheet show, and they just completed
00:11 - the showmanship, and now they're actually
00:13 - showing for tight, it's in the different breeds.
00:17 - And a lot of times, you know, the different farms will have a concentrated, you know,
00:21 - area of what they're breeding maybe, they'll
00:24 - have two separate breeds, you know, concentrate on those breeds.
00:28 - The farms will compete against each other, so
00:30 - that judge will be looking for the straight
00:32 - risks and the wounds and everything, you know,
00:36 - that goes to the sheet as far as, you know,
00:39 - helps when they're showing it to the actor, but these are kids that are, you know,
00:44 - practicing with their animals, you know, and
00:47 - really have some skill and you could tell
00:50 - which ones have worked with their animals more than others.
00:54 - But this is all about the type and so I
00:57 - think we have around 10, 10 different breeds.
01:00 - Some are, and we have an AOP, wool sheet,
01:03 - and AOP hair sheet, and then there's AOP, so
01:07 - if you don't not fit in like the door sets or
01:10 - nymphs, you would fit in, you know, you could
01:12 - show in all other purebreds, but these were all the sheet that were, had registration
01:18 - numbers and they are registered animals, we do have a show where
01:21 - we actually added two or three years ago or it's a crossbred.
01:25 - So these were ones, you know, that were crossbred
01:28 - between different breeds and they actually
01:37 - produce a very good, more produce a great animal, you know, in itself, so yeah.
01:45 - My name is Regan Mahime, and we, just a few minutes ago, we just did showmanship.
01:50 - So in showmanship, I actually do public
01:52 - speaking on it kind of, where it's had to show a sheep in the smaller arena.
01:56 - I actually just went out for showmanship in
02:00 - immediate showmanship and I took first place.
02:03 - For showmanship, you want to have good eye
02:05 - contact, so depending on how quick you pose your
02:07 - sheep and how good of like you control your
02:10 - animal, the judge is always looking in eye contact.
02:13 - I mean, I'm using my bottle baby's daughter,
02:15 - her name's Ruby, I love showing her.
02:17 - She's just so much fun to work with, I've never had a bad thing about my sheep.
02:22 - Ruby is a year old, she's such a sweet girl.
