Caption Text Below:

00:00 - All right, we're here with Jeff Geiger.

00:01 - Jeff, what's your title with the Blues for Fair?

00:03 - Superton in a livestock. Okay, what does that mean?

00:06 - What do you do? We are, you know, have to organize all the livestock shows all

00:10 - week long, and we have every single day of fair, we have multiple livestock shows.

00:14 - All right, like what? What are some examples of some of the

00:16 - livestock you can see of the Blues for Fair?

00:18 - From horse pulling, actually, for the last Friday,

00:20 - and many, many pulls the last Saturday, and

00:23 - then market animal shows throughout the week,

00:25 - dairy shows, and then we'll talk about some of

00:27 - the organizations that come in and who's showing

00:30 - these animals, FFA for each. Yep, both of those,

00:32 - but basically from from seven different counties,

00:35 - we encompass, and yeah, it's a big broad area and a lot of kids.

00:39 - Okay, tell me about some of the the venues here at Fair, like where are people

00:44 - going to see these shows? Yeah, all in the livestock

00:46 - barns here, you know, we have nine different barns,

00:49 - and they're large, you know, it holds about 1,300

00:52 - animals or so, you know, and then even in this

00:54 - outdoor ring, we showcase them with demonstration by the kids.

00:58 - They say, "We don't want to hear from us adults, they want to hear from the kids,

01:01 - so you guys are at, they're the stars, so they

01:03 - get to pick what they want to do, they take the

01:05 - animal and the outdoor ring, and they teach the public.

01:08 - " Yeah, is that a big part of the Blues

01:10 - Affairs teaching and education? It is, big part,

01:14 - and they do that, you know, they do this and even

01:17 - in the outdoor ring, and even as people walk through

01:20 - the barns, a lot of people are very friendly,

01:22 - and they like to tell people if they ask them

01:25 - a question, you know, what they're doing at the

01:27 - mob sphere moment, you know, but this demonstration

01:31 - here in the outdoor ring that has really gone,

01:34 - and we started this probably 12 years ago or

01:36 - so, where we took the sides all off the barn,

01:39 - and it's great when people could just walk up

01:42 - for a little while and learn something, and

01:44 - they can even participate. We have public where

01:47 - they can actually come in the arena and learn how

01:50 - to show a sheep, or we'll put a 4-H or with

01:53 - them, adult and child, you know? Yeah, very cool.

01:56 - Do you have any favorite events this year or in the past?

01:59 - I know you probably shouldn't pick favorites, but.

02:01 - .. Yeah, I like the horse pulling, and I like a lot of the market animal shows,

02:07 - because I work with the 4-H leaders throughout

02:09 - the year, and we'd like to see that going,

02:11 - but I really enjoy the outdoor ring, because of

02:14 - the demonstration part of it, and people like

02:17 - Paul's on the pigs and people here soon, and it's

02:21 - a really educational place, and I like to see

02:24 - the kids grow from year to year, and they might

02:26 - change up their presentations. That's a really

02:28 - great thing that we... Yeah. I love that's what I like to see.

02:32 - How are things going this year for this year for you guys? Pretty good, yeah.

02:37 - Yeah, we always have some things that, you know,

02:40 - we've twined tweak maybe next year, you know, for rules and different things, but

02:44 - yeah, 4-H leaders, unless we keep her trying

02:47 - to keep them best we can, yeah, it's good.

02:50 - What's the energy like at some of the ag competitions?

02:52 - Is it friendly? Is it competitive? Is it both?

02:55 - It is both. Yeah. It is both. It is much like sports.

02:58 - Yeah. It's their sporting event, you know.

03:01 - You know, it really is. It's very competitive, and

03:04 - sometimes you know... Is there anything else you

03:07 - want to say about the fair or any other information

03:08 - you want to share with people watching at home on PCN?

03:10 - Just come out, you know, if you get a

03:13 - chance then, even next year, or whenever you

03:15 - get out of chance, you'll see one of the best

03:18 - fairs, and I've been to a couple big fairs,

03:20 - ministos, state fairs, stuff, but the mom and

03:23 - pop in our community, and we like the small net

03:26 - person at personal, touch we put on things, you

03:29 - know, and you can do we have a lot of things

03:32 - for free, mutton bust, and we have a lot of fun with that.

03:34 - We have so many things that people can get,

03:37 - and they actually make a connection and learn,

03:40 - learn about agriculture in Pennsylvania. All right, Jeff, got you. Thanks very much.
