Mini Grand Prix Jumping Horse Show | Bloomsburg Fair at the Bloomsburg Fairgrounds.
00:00 - So today we're going to introduce miniature horse jumping to you guys.
00:03 - What we're going to do is we're going to start out
00:05 - just warming the minis up over a couple small jumps.
00:08 - They're then going to do a course and if they are clear
00:11 - on that course they're going to do a time to jump off
00:14 - and that's where things get pretty exciting.
00:16 - And then towards the end we are going to try to do a high jump
00:19 - and see how high these minis can jump.
00:21 - And I think this is the first year we've had this many minis.
00:24 - We normally only have like three or four.
00:27 - I brought four from my barn, one of which is a four-h mini.
00:30 - And then we have three four-h's over here who are joining us.
00:33 - So first we're going to introduce you to
00:35 - the minis and give you the handler's names and the
00:38 - names on ages of the minis. So our first one up will be Nani.
00:43 - Nani is so bring Nani down the center so people can see her. Nani is a nine-year-old
00:49 - miniature pony and she's being handled by Stella.
00:54 - Our next mini to come is going to be Deacon.
00:58 - Deacon is a 14-year-old miniature pony and he's going to be handled by London.
01:04 - Then we're going to have Chloe.
01:06 - Chloe is an eight-year-old mini and she's being handled by Josie.
01:11 - Then we're going to have Sunny.
01:13 - Sunny is a 13-year-old mini and she's being handled by Kin's Lay.
01:18 - Next is Spud. Spud is an eight-year-old mini being handled by McKinley.
01:24 - Then we're going to have Zorro who is six years old.
01:27 - He's the baby of the group.
01:29 - He's being handled by Eden. And last but not least is Princess.
01:33 - She is 13 and she's going to be handled by Charlie.
01:37 - Now when these girls are going to jump
01:39 - the minis they are not going to jump with them.
01:43 - The goal is to have the mini go over the fence and
01:46 - the girls will go to the left side of the fence.
01:49 - Now what we're going to do girls is we're going
01:52 - to start out okay but we're going to start out
01:55 - and we're just don't send one of the beginners first.
01:59 - We do have a couple girls here who have
02:01 - only ever jumped a mini once so it will give
02:04 - you an idea of what we do to teach them because
02:07 - we might have to help the girls out a little bit
02:10 - and then we've got some girls here like Charlie
02:12 - who made it to the State 4-H show in Harrisburg,
02:15 - the end of October with her mini in jumping.
02:17 - So we've got some that are really really
02:19 - good jumpers and then we've got some beginner
02:22 - handlers with some minis who like to jump.
02:25 - Sunny may or may not surprise us. Sunny sometimes
02:29 - does not feel like jumping. So what they're doing
02:33 - right now is they're just coming down over the
02:36 - smallest jump and they're just warming them
02:39 - up a little bit. As you can see they let the
02:42 - lead rope out a little bit so that they allow their
02:45 - minis to use their head and neck over the jump.
02:49 - And they have to be very careful to lift that
02:52 - lead rope up so that they don't hit the pool
02:55 - because it doesn't matter if the mini knocks
02:57 - it down or if they knock it down it would count as a fault.
03:00 - Very good. Do you guys want to warm up over one of the bigger jumps?
03:08 - So we're not going to make the jumps really
03:10 - big to star when we do our course but then when
03:13 - we get to the high jump we'll raise a little bit each time.
03:17 - All right so here comes Nani she's going to go over a bigger jump. Very nice.
03:23 - If you notice Nani does not jump any higher than she needs
03:33 - to. She's very very careful. Very nice Zorro.
03:37 - I'm impressed Sunny. Very good. Oop.
03:40 - So you're going to come back again Josie and remember you
03:43 - have to push her head over towards the jump because
03:47 - she's going to try to follow you. Oops.
03:50 - So we're going to put that back up. Josie is one that
03:56 - has only jumped a mini once and Chloe is very
03:59 - feisty and competitive so there you go. Good job.
04:07 - And some minis like to seek out the jumps.
04:09 - Others you have to help them out a little bit.
04:11 - All right so here goes Charlie. We're not going to
04:14 - time this round okay. That was a very good effort by Princess.
04:19 - And when she's done if she's gone clear even if she doesn't you can cheer for her.
04:25 - They love to be cheered for and especially when
04:28 - we end up doing the time round they love it when
04:31 - you cheer for them. All right we got one more jump.
04:34 - We're going to go up over the blue and yellow.
04:37 - Very good. Princess is clear. So Princess will
04:40 - definitely be in the jump off. Who wants to go next?
04:50 - Good job Eden. And if you notice the minis I think
04:53 - he's scared of Sonny's hair which is kind of funny.
04:57 - I was a little nervous too.
05:08 - Oh and Eden did oops. So that would be a run out
05:12 - in a normal in a normal class that would be four
05:16 - faults and so Eden would not make the jump off.
05:19 - She would get four faults and she would place below
05:22 - everybody that went clear. However because Eden
05:26 - is very very fun to watch. We'll definitely let
05:32 - her do the jump off. Okay, McCandley.
05:35 - Because this is about learning it's not about winning but we'll
05:41 - definitely do the jump off. So this is Spud and McCandley.
05:45 - And I believe Spud just learned to jump recently.
05:49 - I don't think he's been jumping for a long time so he's doing a fantastic job.
06:01 - And if you notice some of the girls are carrying
06:04 - whips some of them are not and the whips aren't there
06:08 - for anything other than it's kind of an extension
06:10 - of their hand to give them little taps to ask
06:13 - them to go forward. Some minis are a little bit
06:16 - lazier than others. There are some minis that
06:19 - just don't need whips but there are some that need
06:21 - something to kind of tell them they need to keep trying.
06:26 - Good job Spud. All right now we've got Nani and Stella.
06:30 - Nani is one of those that does need
06:33 - the web just to keep her going because sometimes
06:37 - she just plods along. And as you can see she
06:40 - always jumps just as much as she needs to.
06:43 - She doesn't put a lot of extra effort into it.
06:50 - Whoops so Nani had one knockdown so that would
06:53 - be four faults down over the green and
06:55 - orange and then up over the blue and yellow.
06:58 - Nani is actually going to the state 4-H show and showmanship
07:03 - and that's something where she's held and she has
07:06 - to do maneuvers in hand with Stella while looking
07:10 - pretty and clean. All right let's see who's going to be next.
07:15 - Kinsley, Kinsley and Sunny. Good girl, Sunny.
07:23 - You went with the wrong way over that jump but that's okay keep going.
07:32 - Sunny said she didn't have enough impulse.
07:36 - And I think Kinsley was a little confused because she
07:40 - went over the jump the wrong way but that's okay. There you go up over the purple.
07:45 - Very nice Sunny. Now you're coming down over the green.
07:49 - Good job and then up over the blue and yellow.
07:56 - Sunny could probably use some cheering.
07:58 - Good job Sunny. All right London let's have you go with Deakin.
08:03 - Now Deakin used to be Deakin and Chloe used to be my daughter Taylor's 4-H show ponies
08:12 - and Deakin made it to states a couple times in jumping.
08:17 - And Chloe actually went to the junior horse show and on her 4-year-old year she was
08:22 - reserve champion in the state for junior horse.
08:27 - Very nice. Good job. That's all the last minute.
08:30 - All right let's have Chloe get ready.
08:40 - So someone asked how many hands tall the minis are.
08:43 - So for 4-H minis can be up to 40 inches tall
08:47 - and they measure them at the withers which is
08:49 - that bone that's right at the end of the main.
08:55 - So they can be up to 40 inches. Most of these
08:59 - minis are around 34 to 36 inches I would say.
09:18 - Good job Chloe. Good job Josie and she's going
09:20 - to go up over one more. These girls are doing
09:22 - fantastic for never jumping before. Very good.
09:25 - Good job. Okay so everyone did a really good job.
09:29 - We're going to let everybody go into the
09:32 - timed and I think Taylor is going to time it
09:36 - and when the time is going to start is rate as
09:39 - they take off for the first jump and then she is
09:41 - going to stop the time as they land for the
09:44 - second for the last jump. So she will announce the
09:48 - times and then you girls remember your times and
09:50 - we're going to go in the same order.
09:52 - So go ahead Charlie.
10:01 - And she is going to make as quick a turns as she
10:04 - can and you can cheer the whole time if you want.
10:06 - If you think she's doing a good job. Good job Princess.
10:20 - Very good inside turn. Good job. What is it?
10:23 - And I think that you can tell why Princess made it to states.
10:38 - 14.37 for Princess. All right. How about who was next? Was Eden. All right Eden.
11:01 - Good job Eden. And Eden's time was 18.21. All right McKenzie.
11:29 - All right we have the Kenley and Spud now.
11:50 - And Stella is doing this with a right broken hand too. Don't fall against Stella.
12:05 - Very nice. So she has four faults at the end and
12:09 - 19.33. I will say also it is very hard for these
12:13 - girls to run in these shavings because they are slippery.
12:17 - A lot of times when they go to the horse
12:19 - shows, they will end up wearing like cleats.
12:22 - They can wear cleats and it digs into the dirt a little
12:26 - bit to help them so that they don't fall.
12:29 - All right. So next we have Kenley and Sunny.
12:41 - Sunny is definitely impressing me.
12:44 - Kenley has been working really hard with her back at my barn.
12:54 - Go Sunny, go! That's okay. Go back around.
13:10 - Good job Sunny. All right. And that was 30.
13:14 - 0 with a with a four fault, actually eight faults.
13:26 - There you go.
13:33 - Okay. Now we've got Deakin and London.
13:36 - Don't fall London. I believe London has a fractured foot too.
13:58 - Good job. 19.4A. All right. We have Joe's sake.
14:04 - How do you knock down the jump walking back?
14:13 - All right. Go ahead. Joe's the employee. Come on, Chloe Jean.
14:27 - Chloe's a feisty little mini.
14:39 - Oh, as we have four faults in a 22.03.
14:45 - So Taylor's gonna share the results for me.
14:48 - We're gonna get ready then to do the high jump.
14:52 - But before we do that, would anyone like to see if Taylor can be Charlie with her mini?
15:03 - So we'll see. We'll see. I don't know if you can.
15:14 - And then when we do the high jump, Taylor does
15:16 - have a playlist. She likes to play some fun music
15:24 - too while they're jumping. All right.
15:27 - So when we announce, you guys can raise your hand to say, okay.
15:33 - So first place we had Charlie with Princess.
15:37 - Second place we had Eden with Zorro.
15:42 - Third place we had London with Deakin.
15:45 - Fourth place was Stella with Nonny. Fifth was Josie with Chloe.
15:53 - Sixth was McKinley with Spud. And then seventh was Kinzley with Sonny.
16:01 - Now, the thing is you're gonna get four faults
16:03 - whether you knock one down or if you get a refusal,
16:05 - the problem with getting a refusal is you get
16:08 - more time because it takes a little bit longer,
16:10 - which is what made Sonny move to the bottom.
16:13 - All right. So does anyone want to see if we can see if
16:20 - Taylor can beat the time of 14 point? All right.
16:24 - So she's gonna take Deakin. I'm gonna timer
16:31 - and we're gonna see if Taylor can beat 14.
16:35 - 37 was obviously a very hard time to be because I think
16:44 - the next one was 18. All right. Don't fall, buddy.
17:05 - Oh she did it. She got a 12.09. He almost fell.
17:09 - He is pretty quick. Good boy Deakin. All right.
17:13 - We are gonna get set up for the high jump which we're gonna
17:16 - put down the middle and we're gonna start small
17:19 - and then we're gonna move it up as they go and as
17:22 - long as they look like they're making an effort
17:26 - and they're not stopping and saying definitely
17:28 - no I can't do this anymore. We will allow them to continue.
17:31 - Once the minis get tired and we can tell it's it's beyond their ability.
17:37 - We will pull them out. But if they just knock it down because
17:40 - they got the striding off we're gonna allow them to continue.
