Dairy Beef Showmanship at the York State Fairgrounds.
00:00 - It's a lot of fun it's a lot of hard work i learned the value of a dollar at a
00:03 - very young kid
00:04 - five years old when i started doing this.
00:06 - My parents weren't farmers so was me and my brother started our cattle business
00:10 - and it's a lot of fun so i did my i didn't really grow up doing it
00:14 - because of my parents i grew up because it was my dream to be able to do this and
00:17 - i'm feeling it now.
00:31 - First step live showmanship
00:33 - that's how
00:34 - the handler can control the animal in the show ring
00:37 - make them look the most presentable.
00:39 - That that's the first
00:40 - the judge will go through all the age groups and judge from there
00:43 - and it'll pick a champion and grand champion
00:46 - and then
00:46 - after that we'll have our market glass where he's actually judging the animal
00:50 - and
00:50 - he's judging based on their market quality
00:53 - so he's looking for squareness and how they're
00:54 - going to finish out to go to be food on the table
00:57 - these are the male side of the dairy cows
00:58 - and their spheres of their cat aspirated males.
01:01 - So this is basically what you're eating when you go to a restaurant
01:05 - you'll be eating either dairy beep or Angus
01:07 - that that's how you get your steak usually this
01:09 - is what you're eating reading steered most likely.
01:12 - Cause they
01:13 - finish out the the fastest and the highest quality rather than a hammer
01:17 - or about a day old when we get them
01:18 - and then show from there on out we
01:21 - raise them up to about
01:22 - this guy here at about nine hundred pounds
01:24 - and so will raise an update of that and bring them to the show.
01:28 - Halter break them so they can walk and lead on the water
01:31 - and then
01:32 - work on our showmanship skills
01:34 - with the show's deck and everything setting their feet
01:36 - making them make sure the judge gets the best angle.
01:39 - I've been doing this for years years and i usually bring through to a show
01:43 - or read more at home for my customers to put food on their table
01:47 - and
01:47 - so i raise about
01:49 - five at home
01:49 - per year to bring the shows
01:51 - and then other night.
01:52 - Market cato just just.
01:59 - My senior year this year so i'm planning on just
02:02 - helping the younger kids as much as possible i want to go out and win my sears but
02:05 - it's not my highest priority i want to pass
02:07 - the knowledge i have
02:08 - and
02:09 - the business
02:10 - skills that i built from doing this
02:12 - to the younger generation so they can learn the
02:14 - value of the dollar the young kids do the same thing
02:16 - all the way up to that NASA that on the one
02:18 - near sr the bachelor and the younger kids.
