05:20 - Great job.

07:04 - Please join me in congratulating John Curran from Pine-Richland

07:08 - High School.

07:24 - Thank you.

07:25 - And we're at.

07:30 - Okay.

07:31 - The following is a nomination letter from his high school

07:34 - football coach, Doctor John Lydon.

07:37 - John is a dedicated student athlete

07:40 - who leads by example, acts with integrity

07:43 - and will be an asset to any school team

07:46 - or company he chooses in the future.

07:49 - John was one of the first players I met when I was introduced

07:51 - as the head coach at Pine-Richland in February 2022.

07:56 - His hard work, passion, enthusiasm

07:59 - and dedication were immediately recognized.

08:02 - He was a rising freshman football player, but he was working out

08:05 - with the varsity players like he was a senior.

08:09 - His commitment and passion during workouts made me realize

08:12 - he would be a special leader on the football team for the next several years.

08:17 - He received his second varsity football letter this season.

08:22 - He served as a two year team captain,

08:24 - earned All-Conference and all state

08:26 - recognition recognition as a junior and senior, and received team

08:30 - recognition for his integrity, leadership, commitment, and dedication.

08:34 - He has dominated on both sides of the ball during the last two years,

08:39 - with his old school, tough nosed playing mentality.

08:44 - His drive on the field commands attention from opposing coaches,

08:47 - who are drawn to number 77 when watching film.

08:51 - He anchors both the offensive line and defensive goal line, playing

08:55 - multiple positions throughout a game without complaint or hesitation.

09:00 - He embodies the characteristic a coach hopes to find in any athlete.

09:05 - John shows up to practice and workouts daily with his hard

09:08 - hat lunch pail and gives 110% in everything he does.

09:12 - He leads by example and does whatever is asked of him

09:16 - when he's not on the first team during practice.

09:18 - He's working on the scout team to make us better.

09:21 - Has taken a leadership role by mentoring several younger linemen on the team.

09:26 - He's also served as a team representative with the youth program,

09:30 - encouraging and mentoring young athletes.

09:33 - John is one of four seniors who served on a football program

09:37 - Leadership Council meeting weekly with a coach to discuss

09:40 - any thoughts, issues, concerns related to team activities.

09:44 - He's always a good spokesman for the team

09:47 - outside the lines, always smiling, doing the right things.

09:51 - A high character, lovable individual.

09:54 - When he flips the switch between the lines and puts the helmet on,

09:58 - he dominates all opponents,

10:01 - punishing them with his physicality

10:03 - and finishing defenders into the ground.

10:07 - He also demands double teams every snap while on defense,

10:10 - or he will wreck the opponent's backfield while on either side of the ball.

10:15 - John establishes the line of scrimmage

10:19 - during his last three years.

10:20 - Coach had the privilege of coaching him at the varsity level,

10:23 - and John stood out as a leader on and off the gridiron.

10:26 - He makes and he takes numerous Advanced Placement and honors

10:30 - classes and maintains a 4.3 GPA.

10:34 - That's awesome man.

10:35 - Jeff.

10:41 - I want to recognize that that's awesome.

10:43 - GPA while serving as a role model to the youth of Pine-Richland.

10:46 - He has gained a respect of his teachers and administrators and has been awarded

10:50 - for his academic success as an outstanding student,

10:54 - earning several academic achievement awards.

10:57 - His positive attitude he shares is contagious and allows him

11:00 - to build true friendships with his peers and others in the community.

11:05 - With his limited extra time, John participated

11:07 - in several teen volunteer events Backpack,

11:11 - Brigade Drive, Epilepsy Walk, Easter Thanksgiving, Blessing Baskets, Children's

11:16 - Hospital donations, daycare, mulching,

11:20 - trail cleanup, toys for tots and youth.

11:23 - Camps, to name a few.

11:25 - You've been pretty busy there.

11:26 - He's also an active member of the Black Student Union and Spanish Club.

11:30 - So John will be

11:31 - continuing his education and football career at Pitt University.

11:35 - Congratulations, John, on your achievements and this award.

11:46 - So when John walked up, I'm thinking, wow, he's bigger than me.

11:50 - And then he's 4.3, so he's smarter than me.

11:53 - And then all those other things, he's nicer to me.

11:55 - And I'm going to give you the biggest compliment.

11:56 - I got a freshman daughter at Notre Dame.

11:58 - Can I get your phone number?

12:01 - Congratulations.

12:03 - Just kidding.

12:03 - On the last part.

12:08 - The Mr.

12:08 - Parr Football Foundation and all sports charity provides funding for the movers,

12:13 - a seven on seven team which competes in tournaments.

12:16 - Please stand if you are a change movers, player

12:18 - or coach would like to honor you.

12:29 - Thank you for that.

12:30 - I'd like to introduce coaches for the movers coach Ricky Nelson.

12:34 - Now this is my

12:35 - you're really getting old moment because I literally covered this guy

12:38 - in high school, Bishop McDevitt,

12:40 - as it went on to win a state championship quarterback.

12:42 - And Ricky was a receiver.

12:47 - Scott, the quarterback

12:49 - for this guy? Yes. Very nice.

12:51 - He went to Notre Dame to, and coached him.

12:54 - Savage, former Mansfield

12:55 - University offensive lineman to present this year's MVP awards.

12:59 - Come on up here, guys.

13:16 - The carpet that.

13:21 - Yes. Okay.

13:25 - Yeah, yeah.

13:27 - The school play offense and defense for for two years.

13:31 - Our first start were working with Willis around six years ago during Covid 19,

13:35 - and says that we watched his skill set, brought in a Harrisburg high school

13:40 - where he showcased his skills.

13:42 - It was one of the best receivers in the state.

13:45 - And for the same movers, he excelled as a receiver.

13:48 - He scored multiple touchdowns and had many clutch receptions.

13:51 - We can always count on life to get open and get us the big play.

13:55 - His speed was deceptive.

13:58 - His roster spot on us.

14:00 - Coaches are proud of our guys and we and we congratulate him

14:03 - on all his achievements and wish him the best at Rutgers.

14:16 - So we have the offensive MVP award.

14:19 - A life coach, Harrisburg wide receiver committed

14:21 - to Rutgers University.

14:31 - Thank you for.

14:37 - All right.

14:37 - So first of all, to thank the guys who put all this together.

14:40 - It starts a long ago acquiring sponsorships and organization

14:43 - and the whole nine.

14:44 - It all ends today with the banquet.

14:46 - These guys do a lot behind the scenes to bring notoriety to all the student

14:50 - athletes here in PA, which I felt some the best days for football.

14:55 - For the chambers, go is basically a team comprised of the best players

14:58 - in the Mid Penn Commonwealth area, and there's a lot of talent.

15:02 - We go to 4 or 5 major shootouts a year and always compete very well.

15:07 - And so often the offensive guys quarterback route runners,

15:12 - they get all the credit catching all the balls, scoring TDs and whatnot.

15:16 - But just like real football.

15:17 - Seven and seven torments in Walmart defense.

15:22 - If you can get up two scores

15:24 - and you got the proper play caller and you're running that clock,

15:27 - you can turn it over to your defense and no winning for you.

15:30 - And, we had a guy on chambers for four years.

15:34 - Outstanding player.

15:36 - This is my first year full time coach with the same movers as an offensive

15:40 - minded guy that you can see and respect, the defensive player you want to avoid.

15:43 - So just when watching him move during drills, you know, we went into

15:47 - some scrimmages and then eventually to playing seven sevens.

15:51 - This guy always stood out.

15:52 - He took on the best opposing receiver that we were going to face.

15:56 - He's a state champion at his local high school.

16:00 - He's a very productive player.

16:02 - Great person.

16:04 - Really appreciate the relationship that grew there.

16:10 - Son of a successful father and football coach.

16:13 - So it's in the family.

16:15 - This year's Chase movers.

16:16 - Defensive player is a Keelan Smith from Michigan Devils.

16:39 - Thanks, guys.

16:39 - Appreciate it.

16:41 - And one thing that I think if you're if you're paying attention to

16:44 - this is I want the young people, especially the young players, to realize

16:49 - you're just the latest chapter in what is a book that is this thick,

16:53 - burgeoning of greatness in Pennsylvania football,

16:56 - and you're the latest you're going to be the future star.

16:59 - So that in 20 years, when you're coming here to give an award,

17:01 - who knows what you will have done.

17:03 - But I just want you to recognize

17:04 - how impressive a place Pennsylvania is and how how what an honor it is

17:08 - that you're in this room on this afternoon.

17:10 - It is very significant thing that you were here.

17:12 - We appreciate you being here, but I hope you appreciate, what has gone

17:16 - before you and the greatness that was, for instance, Bishop McDevitt.

17:20 - We just had a Bishop McDevitt guy.

17:21 - Well, I'm from Philadelphia originally, and a, a Philadelphia Eagle fan.

17:26 - You're aware that the two of the greatest running backs in the history

17:29 - of the Philadelphia Eagles are named to playing football for almost 100 years.

17:32 - Are LaShawn McCoy and Ricky Waters.

17:34 - And both of them wanted at Bishop McDevitt

17:35 - High School, which is 15 minutes from here.

17:38 - So that's just one threat.

17:39 - You know, we're not far from where, you know, we just had an anniversary

17:43 - March 2nd, 1962, March 2nd, not far from here.

17:47 - And closer than that.

17:48 - Will Chamberlain scored 100 points in one game against the New York Knicks.

17:52 - And I have three teenagers and my two boys say that didn't happen.

17:55 - And then when I proved to them it did happen, they said, where's the video?

17:58 - Well, I'll tell you, we don't have video. We have the audio clip.

18:01 - We do know what happened.

18:02 - And then they say, yeah, but he was playing against plumbers and electricians.

18:06 - Say, well, we give them grace.

18:10 - They happen to think LeBron James is the greatest player of all time.

18:14 - We all know the silliness of that. Don't wait.

18:16 - Yeah.

18:17 - 100 points in one game did it here.

18:20 - The guy that was number two on that list until this week

18:24 - when someone named Bam mama had a motto or whatever

18:27 - his name is and and whatever team he played for scored 83.

18:29 - But prior to that, the guy scored 81.

18:33 - LaSalle College, which I'm also a graduate of.

18:36 - When I was your age, the young guys age, I was a fan of a guy named Joe.

18:40 - Brian played for LaSalle College.

18:41 - I was always a big LaSalle fan.

18:43 - We'd go to watch Big five basketball.

18:45 - Joe played in the NBA a little bit, played

18:48 - for the Sixers, went to Italy, but he had a son by the name of Kobe.

18:51 - So up until this week, wilt Chamberlain,

18:54 - they're 100 points and Kobe Bryant 81 points

18:58 - were the two greatest performances.

19:01 - Single game Kobe Bryant's in Philadelphia,

19:04 - Pennsylvania Athletics.

19:06 - And I know I'm now talking I went on a basketball tangent.

19:08 - I didn't intend to.

19:08 - Don't know how I did that, but nonetheless,

19:12 - you're a chapter in a very important athletics book, and I just hope

19:16 - you recognize how important it is that you're in this room.

19:18 - And what a special thing it is for you to be.

19:20 - And also the batons being passed to you.

19:23 - Take it. Run well, run fast with it.

19:26 - The Michigan Football Foundation and all sports

19:29 - charity provides funding for the late movers.

19:32 - Wait a minute.

19:32 - I just did that. So.

19:34 - Okay, let me move to the next page.

19:36 - Sports recruiters honored and proud to team up on.

19:38 - Very excited to talk about this with a very worthwhile charity.

19:42 - It's called Vicky's Angel Foundation and their founder is Mickey Minick.

19:47 - And it's fitting the role that he's going to give out a legendary coach award

19:50 - because he was a legendary coach himself, for many years.

19:53 - And then he was involved with a thing called the big 33.

19:56 - I was talking about how you're an important chapter, right?

19:58 - We've been doing the big 33 of Pennsylvania all star team

20:01 - since the 1950s.

20:03 - There has never been a Super Bowl played

20:06 - without at least one person

20:09 - from that big 33 football classic, which is amazing.

20:13 - One of you in this room may be one of those in the future.

20:17 - We're very pleased to have Mickey and Ken Miller as members

20:20 - of our advisory team and contributors to the cost of the legendary Coach Trophy.

20:24 - We want to thank Ken for arranging to have the legendary coaches.

20:28 - President Sports Recruiters is pleased to donate a portion

20:31 - of today's proceeds to Vicky's Angel Foundation.

20:34 - And Mickey, when he was done coaching, And sadly, his wife passed away of cancer

20:39 - and he recognized there's a need not for cancer research,

20:43 - which, by the way,

20:43 - they're doing that not far from here at Hershey men and doing it well.

20:47 - But he recognizes there are families who, when someone's

20:50 - diagnosed with cancer, oh my goodness, I still have to pay the bills.

20:54 - So he has taken it on himself to have this charity

20:59 - that literally gives money to families so they can pay the bills

21:03 - while they're dealing with the things they have to deal with with cancer.

21:07 - It's an amazing charity. We've done a number of stories on it.

21:09 - He's raised an incredible amount of money.

21:10 - He's doing God's work with that.

21:13 - So we want to thank, Carmen Antonio for Astra,

21:15 - for sponsoring the legendary coach presentation.

21:18 - But at this point, please, welcome Coach Mickey Minnick.

21:30 - Dennis

23:58 - So with this morning

24:00 - to come up and take a moment here and here in the New York City engineering.

24:03 - Thanks.

24:04 - Quickly.

24:09 - Thanks for the introduction.

24:10 - I want to congratulate all the players that are here today and all the coaches.

24:15 - And a special thanks,

24:18 - coach Pat Narduzzi, to coming all the way

24:20 - from Pittsburgh here today to spend some time with you guys.

24:24 - It's an honor to know my blessed to meet him and known for quite a few years.

24:28 - And these are not standing man, and he's a man of his word.

24:32 - I really appreciate him at the University of Pittsburgh, here today.

24:36 - And, I retired a few years back after 40 years coaching.

24:41 - I'd like to recognize one of the top coaches in western Pennsylvania

24:46 - who I've got the honor of playing against for numerous years,

24:49 - and they were really battles.

24:51 - Some of the

24:52 - coaches out there, coach, friend who's also on the board here.

24:55 - And coach McCurry, Jack McCurry, who was at North Hills for all those years

25:00 - or two of the most outstanding coaches ever to come out of Western Pennsylvania.

25:05 - Jack coasted to high school.

25:07 - He started at Richmond High School,

25:09 - was here for three years, and he was at North Hills

25:12 - for the remainder of his career, which was 33 years.

25:16 - He won 14 conference titles for Wpil championships,

25:21 - won a state championship

25:24 - and one national championship.

25:27 - During his career.

25:29 - That was in 1987.

25:30 - He was named the USA today

25:33 - National High School Coach of the year,

25:36 - and he also won multiple and numerous

25:39 - Hall of Fame inductions around the state.

25:43 - In the country.

25:44 - I had the pleasure.

25:45 - He won that championship in 1987 and I was in Woodland Hills.

25:50 - It was my second year there, and he couldn't find anybody to play him,

25:54 - so I volunteered to play him in 1987 or 1988.

25:59 - And he came back to our stadium called The Wolverine.

26:02 - It was a dusty field.

26:04 - He had a great team, and we ended up losing 14 to 12 as a great football game.

26:10 - But I learned what a great coach he was.

26:12 - And because I had some great players on that team.

26:15 - Jack McCrory

26:17 - is a coach from the Wpial and out West.

26:20 - I respected him, but the most important thing.

26:22 - His defenses were outstanding.

26:25 - If you got a solid defense, you in every game you played

26:28 - and he had a solid defense.

26:30 - I don't think too many coaches could figure out his defense.

26:33 - I did a few times.

26:34 - You got to beat him a few times down the road,

26:36 - but in the beginning he always beat us.

26:39 - After a while I got smarter and beat him a couple times.

26:42 - One of the most outstanding coaches from western Pennsylvania in the state,

26:46 - Jack McCrory.

26:55 - Thank you, George.

26:58 - I'm truly humbled.

27:00 - Excuse me.

27:02 - I'm truly humbled to stand here today.

27:05 - To receive this award is something that I never set out to do.

27:10 - Honestly, I don't feel.

27:13 - Like I deserve to stand here alone.

27:17 - I had the whole group.

27:18 - Every kid I coached should be standing here with me.

27:22 - Football has never been about one person.

27:25 - It's about the people who walked the journey with you.

27:29 - First, I want to thank God for the opportunity to coach this game

27:33 - that has given me so much.

27:36 - Football teaches lessons that goes far beyond the football field.

27:41 - It's discipline, their sacrifice.

27:43 - There's brotherhood and there's perseverance.

27:47 - I've been blessed to experience

27:49 - those lessons every single day.

27:52 - I want to thank my family, especially.

27:55 - Coaching is not easy for the people to love you.

27:59 - All night long sessions, missed dinners

28:03 - we can spend on busses and in locker rooms that a normal person wouldn't walk into.

28:17 - Through all of

28:17 - that, my family has been my family foundation.

28:21 - Their support made it possible for me to pour my heart

28:24 - into this profession.

28:27 - The players I've been blessed to coach, I thank you very much.

28:31 - You're the reason that this award means a great deal to me.

28:35 - The coach doesn't step on the field to make tackles

28:39 - or score touchdowns.

28:42 - The players always do.

28:44 - Watching young men grow into leaders

28:47 - as teammates and men of character

28:50 - has been the greatest reward for this job.

28:54 - Championships and trophies are special,

28:58 - but seeing

28:59 - who the players become after football,

29:02 - that's what matters most to me.

29:06 - To my assistant coaches and staff.

29:08 - The program is built by one person.

29:10 - It's built by people who believe in the same mission

29:14 - and are willing

29:16 - to work long hours for something that is greater than themselves.

29:21 - Your loyalty, your passion, your commitment

29:24 - to these players make everything possible.

29:29 - We had fun.

29:31 - I was a high school principal for 35 years.

29:35 - I was also a coach for 35 years.

29:38 - It was kind of a unique combination

29:41 - early on, and I learned lessons.

29:44 - The band director,

29:46 - three to college years and some of the people in here

29:49 - know, and I arranged for the drumline

29:53 - to march through the locker room

29:56 - before each game.

29:59 - This really, for some reason, excited our players.

30:02 - And believe it or not, it continues to this day.

30:06 - We have members of those teams sitting here today.

30:12 - We also encourage the players to audition for the for the school musical.

30:16 - I was doing some things and that way

30:19 - and they made it.

30:22 - The linemen made it.

30:24 - Picture this numerous football linemen

30:27 - dancing across the stage

30:29 - as members of the High School Musical.

30:32 - Oklahoma! So.

30:39 - All of these school relationships brought together a fanbase

30:42 - that left no empty seats in North Hills Stadium

30:47 - and a traveling fan base

30:49 - that many times outnumbered the home team.

30:52 - Proud.

30:54 - We as a group had fun.

30:57 - I had fun.

30:59 - I've been fortunate to learn

31:01 - from a great many coaches along the way.

31:05 - Coaches like Jim Render

31:07 - and George Novak

31:10 - and Bob Palka

31:12 - and many others.

31:13 - Each of them have shared wisdom that they've learned

31:17 - and passed on to coaches like myself.

31:21 - The game has always been about more than football.

31:24 - It's about building a culture where young men learn accountability,

31:28 - humility, and how to serve one another.

31:31 - If our players lead the

31:32 - program as better young men.

31:36 - Leaders and members

31:37 - of the community, then we've truly succeeded.

31:40 - As a coach.

31:42 - So I'm grateful for this recognition.

31:45 - I accept it on behalf of every player who ever trusted our program,

31:51 - and every coach who stood the sideline with me

31:55 - and every family member who sacrificed so much along the way.

32:00 - I thank you for this honor.

32:02 - I'll continue to do my best to serve the game

32:05 - and the young men who played it.

32:08 - Thank you.

32:18 - Here is the trophy you received it Trophy for?

32:21 - For you.

32:23 - And this trophy.

32:24 - I have a dozen over here to my right.

32:27 - And this will go in the governor's office with the state.

32:30 - All the winners are on here. And so,

32:34 - cannot thank you enough

32:36 - that forever and any of your coaches we introduce you to,

32:41 - I don't know, I think you're.

32:41 - What do we have to honor? You?

32:44 - Yeah. Yeah, yeah.

32:45 - Right here.

32:46 - There you go.

32:49 - Stand up.

32:50 - She runs down.

32:51 - Okay.

32:51 - Yeah.

32:56 - God bless you.

32:57 - Thank you all very much.

33:02 - I know, that's right.

33:05 - Thank you very much, Becky.

33:06 - Congratulations again, coach.

33:07 - And all the legendary coaches that are not just on here.

33:09 - We have a couple of them at the table over there.

33:11 - So thank you all for being here.

33:12 - And I think it's fitting that this next award comes after the coaches

33:16 - because coaches understand where football games are won and lost.

33:21 - Do we have wide receivers, quarterbacks and running backs here?

33:25 - Any wide receivers quarterbacks running backs.

33:28 - Well, you can just relax for a minute because the games are one

33:31 - in the line right.

51:37 - and three days later, you know, Covid, you know, hit us all in the face.

51:40 - So I never forget the last time I was here.

51:43 - And I think, you know, coach, go back to work up to that and get that year as well.

51:47 - So I want to make sure I say that.

51:49 - Okay. We're all here for one reason.

51:52 - We all love football. Correct? Okay.

51:54 - We all love football.

51:55 - Okay. Yeah.

51:58 - It's a great sport, guys.

52:00 - You guys have the opportunity to coach to play the greatest sport in the world.

52:04 - Okay.

52:05 - And it changes.

52:06 - I mean, yeah, everybody I've talked to upstairs here

52:08 - for an hour prior to this thing.

52:09 - You know, we him you know the game of football was changing.

52:12 - But we can't let it change. That makes sense.

52:14 - And again it's going to be part of the

52:16 - your responsibility to make sure it doesn't change you know for the worse.

52:19 - But we love football and I've been blessed.

52:21 - You know, you saw my dad up there on the outstanding video

52:25 - that had a chance to play with him. My freshman year.

52:27 - He got fired.

52:28 - But my dad had an incredible career, but I

52:31 - didn't since I was this big, I moved around.

52:34 - He went through my career as a coach.

52:36 - Now, I was born in New Haven, Connecticut.

52:37 - My dad was defense coordinator, came, back with Calvin Cavanaugh.

52:42 - Pretty darn good football player. Okay.

52:44 - First round, go back to Yale. At Yale. Okay.

52:47 - That was back when I was like, ACC football.

52:49 - Okay, that was SEC football back in the day.

52:51 - Everybody knows everybody. No Granville

52:53 - basketball player, but his dad was Cal and he was a better player.

52:56 - First rounder, played 12 years, I think in the National Football League.

52:59 - That's when I started loving football.

53:02 - Okay.

53:02 - Then we moved out to the University of Miami and, in Florida.

53:07 - Yeah.

53:07 - Was around another great offensive player, another great one, Chuck Foreman.

53:11 - Never.

53:11 - I never checked for a place like you for all kind of another first round.

53:15 - So I'm a little kid growing up.

53:16 - I'm looking around at, look at this.

53:18 - You know, I get my two year old with my dad.

53:19 - Everywhere we travel was my dad's. Okay?

53:22 - We all have heroes up here, right, guys?

53:24 - You know, don't ever stop, you know, forgetting where you came from,

53:27 - who your hero was and who you play for and why you do what you do.

53:31 - We moved from Miami, Kentucky, had some great years at the University of Kentucky.

53:35 - You know,

53:35 - another great defensive player arc still got a first rounder watching him.

53:39 - We still, you know, wrestle with the box with him in the weight room.

53:42 - Now I'm starting to get a little old.

53:43 - We left 13 house.

53:44 - And you talk about love and football in 13 houses

53:47 - from the stadium and the practices.

53:48 - He would throw my bookbag up on the front porch.

53:51 - Would he go inside, see mom?

53:53 - Okay, throw the book bag, read down the street 13 hours

53:56 - the across the street, safe side of the street corner.

54:00 - Little hole defense.

54:01 - We made ourselves.

54:02 - Okay, you know, chop, chop.

54:04 - Take in the trees, bushes in the fence right there.

54:07 - You know, you know, gigantic facility, you know, to watch that coach every day.

54:11 - Okay.

54:12 - Was there again some tremendous players

54:14 - get up there and go be the head coach at Youngstown State University.

54:17 - Was there for 11 seasons as well.

54:19 - Again, just grew up with it.

54:21 - And so all the great players here, you guys probably remember jaws one Gorski

54:26 - but I was there touchdown quarterback for for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

54:30 - And of course we have some people you'll get two great offensive players.

54:34 - And then, had an opportunity to be around a kicker being called Big Fat.

54:38 - We talked about we you know, things have changed.

54:41 - He was a rookie you know with the Philadelphia Eagles

54:44 - barefooted tender okay.

54:45 - But I didn't go to the transfer portal to get him okay.

54:48 - They went to this.

54:49 - You like to downtown states.

54:50 - You went to Youngstown State soccer team to get Paul McFadden okay.

54:54 - Find a way back to the that's how that's they have a route to the football.

54:57 - You know that was turn into a Paul.

54:59 - But to Paul McFadden from the outside he's getting drafted by the the Eagles.

55:03 - And they came here for the Eagles.

55:04 - And like I said rookie of the year.

55:07 - In the National Football League.

55:08 - So I've seen how his game was growing as a little kid.

55:11 - And then go to my old coaching career in college football.

55:14 - And again,

55:15 - we see the ups and downs and I think as a college coach

55:17 - or high school coach, we're all dealing with the same things.

55:19 - Coach go back.

55:20 - You got out one time, Jackson out at the right time.

55:23 - But, you know, the game was changing and we got to make sure it doesn't.

55:26 - And I think,

55:27 - you know, as players and coaches, it's our responsibility to keep it together okay.

55:31 - I think that's important.

55:32 - So, can you talk about special teams?

55:35 - Okay.

55:35 - Paul McFadden you know, break ticket. Okay.

55:37 - Well how important special teams are.

55:39 - So wherever you guys go, you know, on special teams, if you're a wide receiver

55:44 - or offensive lineman, do your best to be an elite player on special teams.

55:48 - Don't think you're just going to get there off of offense or defense.

55:51 - Okay, so special needs a kid is important okay.

55:53 - Then we focus on offense okay?

55:55 - Offense support.

55:57 - Somebody got me there okay.

55:58 - We all love offense right.

55:59 - Score points but offense support.

56:01 - And you guys don't believe on offense okay.

56:04 - And then we can defense okay okay.

56:07 - Which defense happens.

56:08 - Like that's where I grew out of one year is wide receiver coach

56:11 - the rest of my career. How many years have been 30. Some.

56:14 - I get good coaching on defense and that's how I got where I am

56:17 - today is with defense and what we put on the field.

56:20 - Okay.

56:20 - The one last thing that's changed in this world is,

56:23 - you know, special teams, offense, defense.

56:25 - There's also a thing called we fancy pants.

56:27 - Okay, you guys got me. Everybody say we fix.

56:30 - Okay, so we fix.

56:32 - What the heck is we fix? Okay.

56:34 - So I'm pretty good, right? Defense okay.

56:36 - So I, I came up with this a year ago

56:38 - and coaches you know take no because I think it's unbelievable okay.

56:42 - We have to stop coaching. Everything's okay.

56:45 - Yeah I'm

56:46 - I got it's a completely it's not an offensive defense I'm not a defense guy.

56:49 - It's about we facts.

56:50 - And John's heard this before okay.

56:52 - The number one key to defense I'm going to hit are we face okay.

56:55 - The number one thing is

56:56 - we never let our family that we never let our family back okay.

56:59 - So you guys we're all going to be responsible to a team okay?

57:03 - John, being more responsible to a team, you don't let your teammates down.

57:07 - That means you work your tail off

57:08 - and you do everything you can do to help your football team win.

57:12 - You do everything you do okay with that game.

57:14 - Want to back in Jersey to represent your family the right way on

57:17 - and off the field?

57:18 - Okay, academically or socially in the classroom?

57:21 - Does that make sense?

57:21 - But whatever you're doing the class okay.

57:23 - We don't you know, we don't have a family.

57:25 - So I don't care

57:26 - that you guys have college roommates and making sure that they get up

57:29 - when you get up and get to that building on time.

57:30 - So that's the number one rule we fix.

57:32 - Number two is we always trust and care for each other okay.

57:36 - In the game of football it's about trust okay.

57:38 - If I understand that folks you got to trust that offense like you, okay.

57:43 - You got to trust in offense.

57:44 - I got to believe that left tackle got your back. Okay?

57:46 - We have to trust from our teammates.

57:49 - We got to trust the people around us. Okay?

57:52 - And we got to know if we got to do it for each other.

57:54 - That makes sense.

57:55 - Okay.

57:55 - Number three, we always got to stay positive and believe okay.

57:59 - Stay positive and believe there's going to be ups and downs.

58:02 - Actual career ain't gonna be easy.

58:03 - It ain't going to be smooth. Okay.

58:05 - But we have to stay positive okay.

58:08 - Does that make sense? You better believe what you're doing.

58:10 - Okay.

58:11 - I took the heads up.

58:12 - Did 11 seasons gone okay?

58:14 - I took a heads up, hit me. Let go.

58:16 - Because I want to go to the place.

58:18 - Okay, I turned out for him, coach.

58:19 - I was like, set the job, okay?

58:21 - There's a lot of cooks. I could have never talked about.

58:23 - Head coaching job. Okay.

58:25 - I took a four head coaching job.

58:26 - So last was three days before I took the pitch up.

58:29 - Is because I believed that we could win a championship here.

58:32 - I didn't want to go anywhere, coach.

58:33 - And I won't mention the names, okay?

58:35 - Because some of you guys go there.

58:37 - Okay?

58:37 - But I didn't want to go to the high school.

58:39 - I didn't believe I could want to be a championship.

58:41 - I want to win.

58:42 - I didn't come, I didn't come, just, you know,

58:44 - just to be the head coach, make some money, okay?

58:47 - My, that was a head coach, athletic director, Youngstown State.

58:50 - He made $43,000. Okay? Six kids.

58:54 - Okay. You're hardly okay.

58:55 - I didn't get into coaching to make money.

58:57 - A coach to make money, I made money.

58:59 - I didn't get into coaching, make money. I saw how it was done.

59:01 - Okay?

59:01 - I got a way to develop young men in trying to win football games.

59:05 - That's what it was.

59:05 - It was not to make money in some golf clubs here,

59:09 - you know, consider, you know, really what it was.

59:11 - So again,

59:12 - you believe I believe what you're doing and have belief in your coaches, okay?

59:17 - You gotta have belief in each other, okay?

59:19 - Number number four there. Okay?

59:21 - This happens all the time. I see guys with are pawns up okay.

59:24 - We don't point fingers.

59:25 - Coaches our players okay.

59:27 - Things are going to go wrong.

59:28 - You know go play somebody else.

59:30 - You know you get sacked.

59:32 - You didn't throw the ball fast enough.

59:33 - Whatever it was you missed the tackle.

59:35 - Yeah but he should have been there. Help me. Hey.

59:37 - You put your thumb quarters not finger okay.

59:40 - And again I think it did.

59:41 - College football, high school football peewee football okay.

59:46 - And you know we got to play better defense as people okay.

59:49 - So we don't point fingers that make sense guys I mean don't get into that.

59:52 - What can you do better to make the situation better wherever you are okay.

59:56 - The next week the last one we're talking about encouragement okay.

59:59 - 098 We encourage our teammates okay.

01:00 - 04.500 Encourage our guys to kick off practice.

01:00 - 06.369 Guys coach each other up, okay.

01:00 - 10.506 We teach our guys how to coach each other up and encourage them to be better.

01:00 - 12.809 If you're not going to have a great day.

01:00 - 16.613 And I just that fun coach, a coach and a coach.

01:00 - 18.181 Football is fun.

01:00 - 19.849 Okay, coach football, son.

01:00 - 21.484 We have fun with it, okay?

01:00 - 23.453 The game can never stop being fun.

01:00 - 24.754 If the game stops being fun.

01:00 - 26.522 Guys, it's time to get the hell out.

01:00 - 26.789 Okay?

01:00 - 29.225 As a player or as a coach, you better have fun.

01:00 - 30.393 Okay? But how is it?

01:00 - 31.027 How is it fun?

01:00 - 34.263 You encourage each other, you pick guys up when they're not okay.

01:00 - 35.832 And again, that's what we do.

01:00 - 41.337 So those are like my five reflexes that I'll give you today I got five ball okay.

01:00 - 43.873 But I'm going to get I'm going to get pulled off the block

01:00 - 46.476 free is the last thing I want to hit you with.

01:00 - 48.244 And I think this is what life is about.

01:00 - 51.414 And this is not something I made up today or made up yesterday,

01:00 - 53.916 but these are four program goals, okay, okay.

01:00 - 57.153 I think you can take this wherever you go with any business you go okay.

01:00 - 00.256 First one is relationships with other players.

01:01 - 02.525 Okay. Get a famous set up job challenge.

01:01 - 05.662 If you date up there, you know it's about relationships.

01:01 - 06.362 Guys.

01:01 - 08.364 The game of life is about relationships.

01:01 - 10.400 We build relationships.

01:01 - 13.636 Okay, one of the old quotes that I love Lee Tressel.

01:01 - 15.838 Oh, God. What's head coach.

01:01 - 19.175 Is that what we said was, Jim Tressel head coach in Ohio State,

01:01 - 20.877 that we got some Ohio State Buckeyes in,

01:01 - 25.782 wait, but, and his quote was

01:01 - 28.184 nobody cares. Okay?

01:01 - 31.020 We don't care what you know till we know how much you care.

01:01 - 31.688 Okay?

01:01 - 35.825 Nobody cares how good a coach I am till they know how much I care about them.

01:01 - 38.361 So relationship. So how was the Michigan State?

01:01 - 39.996 Okay, again, I was in charge.

01:01 - 42.965 I was head coach in the defense, defense, coach meetings

01:01 - 46.169 and the love we had on our defense

01:01 - 50.006 was why we really were top ten, top five, top number one team in the country.

01:01 - 53.976 Defensively, it was because there was love in relationship on our defense.

01:01 - 56.612 And I said, when I become a head coach, I want to have an offense

01:01 - 58.648 and won't have a defense on our special teams.

01:01 - 00.249 I'm going to have some weak. That's okay.

01:02 - 04.687 Where we all have that love Relationships and love on the football team.

01:02 - 06.055 You can do anything you want to do.

01:02 - 08.291 Okay, so that's enough of a program goal.

01:02 - 10.193 You know, we're not going to.

01:02 - 12.361 You know, we're not going to cut you out of practice.

01:02 - 13.930 I mean, it ain't going to be like that.

01:02 - 17.533 How do you how does a kid trust you when you get just screamed at?

01:02 - 18.968 Degrading the practice.

01:02 - 19.268 Look at.

01:02 - 21.838 I seen that high school student called practices before.

01:02 - 24.140 Okay. You know, so, like, that doesn't happen.

01:02 - 26.209 You don't build relationships, I don't care.

01:02 - 29.245 You know, the fitness rating doesn't change because you're number one.

01:02 - 31.280 Number two is to graduate all players.

01:02 - 31.981 Okay.

01:02 - 34.117 You don't want to stress with graduation.

01:02 - 34.684 Hey, everybody.

01:02 - 37.587 This group better graduate from college, okay? It's a wash.

01:02 - 40.757 I sat with a kid last week in my office

01:02 - 44.827 and said, hey, give me three things you need to talk, okay?

01:02 - 46.129 Bam bam bam.

01:02 - 48.998 Never once mentioned getting a degree. I said, hey, can I get the degree?

01:02 - 51.267 It was like it didn't even matter.

01:02 - 52.735 Like it's not even any sports.

01:02 - 54.771 Okay, guys, not a.

01:02 - 55.538 Let me just tell you.

01:02 - 57.406 And I know

01:02 - 59.275 Rev share all that stuff guys.

01:02 - 00.309 It it can be the forever.

01:03 - 02.345 So you better get a degree.

01:03 - 05.548 You guys better get off the gear phones back there to knock you guys out.

01:03 - 07.917 Who's my my safety back there? My.

01:03 - 10.319 I'm looking like someone that back.

01:03 - 11.754 Hey, hey.

01:03 - 14.023 And I'm gonna call you out to John.

01:03 - 16.025 Well, I call you out in the team meeting.

01:03 - 16.893 Yes, sir.

01:03 - 19.896 Hey, you know, just the way it is, but, you know,

01:03 - 21.731 those relationships are critical to

01:03 - 24.734 where the hell is going because the safety back there forgot his name.

01:03 - 27.036 I should forget a name. I know it's a good way to do it.

01:03 - 27.303 Okay.

01:03 - 30.039 Did you figure out the graduation?

01:03 - 32.875 That is critical. So this young man didn't want to graduate?

01:03 - 33.776 Doesn't really care.

01:03 - 35.745 He just wants to make money, play console.

01:03 - 38.581 Guess what? It won't work that way. Okay?

01:03 - 41.117 It doesn't work that way. About 2.5% of you.

01:03 - 41.651 Okay.

01:03 - 45.254 So maybe one guy was who might over the other might, because it's not.

01:03 - 48.191 You know, I think you can. You got about a 2% chance.

01:03 - 50.626 One of that's probably you better get a degree.

01:03 - 52.628 And let me tell you about the transfer portal.

01:03 - 55.231 But they don't talk about it. But I call it the magic for everything.

01:03 - 58.134 You're going to automatically go to this portal and it's going to be magic.

01:03 - 59.268 Also, you're going to

01:03 - 02.905 you know, you're going to be like some of those elite quarterbacks in there.

01:04 - 06.108 You don't hear about all the the guys who go to the portal

01:04 - 08.044 that never come out of you guys. Okay.

01:04 - 09.712 You better get your degrees wherever you go.

01:04 - 12.715 And I can guarantee you this. If you transfer one time.

01:04 - 15.685 Okay, there's a great chance you're not going to graduate.

01:04 - 16.586 You transfer twice.

01:04 - 19.555 I can guarantee you have a 0% chance, right?

01:04 - 22.725 That's why when you make your decision, stick with it.

01:04 - 24.260 Trust your decision.

01:04 - 27.029 Trust the people that helped you make that decision and make it work.

01:04 - 28.531 Sit there and make the thing work.

01:04 - 30.867 That's what we did in your guys. Okay?

01:04 - 32.068 We made it work.

01:04 - 35.037 We just don't jump in this magical thinking it's going to take us where,

01:04 - 38.274 you know, maybe this other guy had success, but it just happen.

01:04 - 38.941 Guys.

01:04 - 43.045 Okay, so graduation number two, and we got to number three.

01:04 - 45.481 I kind of talked about a little bit about winning.

01:04 - 47.283 I came to pick the win okay.

01:04 - 49.919 Going on season number 12 this year okay.

01:04 - 51.354 I knew we could get to the championship.

01:04 - 53.289 First time we got our butts kicked by Clinton.

01:04 - 56.626 Second time we beat comes in at home in Aperture Stadium

01:04 - 58.794 and then beat way for us to the SEC championship.

01:04 - 02.498 And we should have the backlash here every year our football team believes

01:05 - 04.200 will be that championship game. Okay.

01:05 - 05.701 And we're one game away this year.

01:05 - 06.702 Being in that game,

01:05 - 09.705 you know, we're tied for second place with six and two in the MVC.

01:05 - 11.073 I want to win game.

01:05 - 14.944 I didn't come just to develop guys to tell guys to get off the damn phone, okay.

01:05 - 16.345 Make sure they got the degree

01:05 - 18.781 and make sure that, you know, that we had great relations.

01:05 - 21.951 Then the last one is where I teach our guys how to be givers, not takers.

01:05 - 23.052 Okay.
