PA Senate America 250 Ceremonial Celebration Interview with Sen. Cris Dush
00:00 - Sen tell us
00:02 - about the significance of today's event
00:04 - getting the senate outside of the chamber
00:07 - and doing something historic like this.
00:09 - Well
00:10 - history to me is very important and the fact that this is only the fourth time in
00:15 - the last hundred years
00:17 - that the state senate has actually traveled outside
00:19 - of the state capital procession
00:22 - but the importance of this is the fact that we're
00:24 - coming back to the birthplace of this republic
00:27 - and the whole.
00:28 - Idea
00:29 - of the constitution
00:31 - and the importance of it it gives us.
00:33 - A sense of.
00:35 - The weight
00:36 - of
00:37 - Bearing the responsibility of being the stewards
00:40 - this commonwealth and the stewards of the
00:42 - health safety and welfare of our constituents
00:46 - and you brought a student with you can you talk about
00:49 - how
00:50 - you
00:51 - picked the
00:52 - person that you are going to bring with you
00:53 - while it was
00:54 - kind of unique we were given the opportunity to bring a student and I work with I
00:58 - have seven counties in my district
01:00 - a lot of school districts
01:01 - and so I put it out there that I wanted to have an essay contest
01:05 - on the character of the foul Saunders
01:07 - and how that was significant in
01:09 - us coming to our constitution
01:12 - and
01:12 - we put it out there I kept myself out of this election process
01:17 - but we had a team evaluate him
01:19 - one was stand out on the essay and.
01:23 - It was unanimous
01:24 - so
01:25 - That helped
01:26 - make it easy and
01:28 - he's
01:29 - he's a very remarkable and I think you're going to find out a very eloquent speaker.
01:34 - And would you write about and what interested you in this.
01:38 - Yeah so the
01:39 - topic of the essay was to talk about
01:41 - what was significant about the character of the American founders
01:44 - and I thought there's a number of things that are significant about the American
01:47 - founders but there's one that stands out more than any
01:50 - thing else and that's the sphere of Liberty that the American founders have.
01:54 - Every other nation on earth has a constitution which tells the
01:58 - people of that nation what they can do but the American constitution
02:01 - is different the American founders went the opposite way
02:04 - they said we the people are going to tell the government
02:07 - what they can can and cannot do
02:08 - and that's the very thing that this great nation was founded on
02:11 - the very thing that started here in Philadelphia.
02:15 - What are you involved in
02:17 - at bald eagle area.
02:19 - I'm involved in a number of clubs I gotta say my
02:22 - favorite is definitely just track and field and cross country and all those
02:26 - amazing sports with my amazing coaches I'm also part of the.
02:30 - Nhs
02:31 - the ff fe and our local sch after that fellowship of Christian athletes.
02:36 - Center one more thing what what other kinds of
02:38 - things are you doing back in your district to
02:41 - commemorate
02:42 - the two fiftieth
02:43 - or the seven counties there are a whole lot of
02:46 - it'd be a long list you've got all day.

02:52 - dedication the.

03:03 - at the belt dedication dedicated copies of the libertyville
