11:24 - Wearing that uniform and taking up that call to serve.

11:28 - At demonstrates a special kind of courage

11:32 - and.

11:33 - I know it places a unique burden

11:35 - on the families of our law enforcement officers.

11:39 - Today we gather to honor these five fallen heroes

11:43 - and

12:01 - in service to this commonwealth.

12:03 - These unspeakable losses bind each of you together

12:08 - into another tight knit

12:10 - loving family.

12:12 - Then I know never

12:14 - wanted to be brought together

12:16 - but you are bound by the pain of losing a loved one

12:20 - in the cause

12:21 - of noble service.

12:23 - I know that family extends to every corner of our commonwealth

12:27 - and it's made up of too many good people.

12:31 - Who have lost someone in the line of duty

12:35 - to every family who joins us

12:37 - today

12:55 - the promise I made to you.

12:58 - At a hospital bedside.

13:01 - At a funeral.

13:03 - In a community.

13:05 - Or in a quiet moment

13:07 - where we just hugged.

13:09 - If you need anything.

13:11 - In the next day and the next week and the next month or a year

13:15 - we're in the next decade.

13:30 - Please know

13:31 - that we do not ever take for granted

13:34 - the sacrifices of those who wear the uniform

13:37 - and the families

13:39 - that support them.

13:41 - I take my responsibility as your governor

13:43 - to support our law enforcement officers quite seriously

13:47 - we will always have the backs

13:49 - of the women and men who put on the uniform every day and put it all on the line for us

13:55 - we have your backs in both words

13:57 - and in deeds

13:59 - and that's why we've all come together

14:01 - to continue to make

14:02 - historic investments in law enforcement

14:05 - and to keep our law enforcement officers

14:08 - safe

14:09 - and protests elected.

14:11 - In our administration we will always stand with women and men in uniform

14:16 - and every family member here

14:18 - to everyone

14:19 - was mourning the loss

14:43 - our law enforcement officials

14:46 - we have your backs

14:47 - and we will continue

14:49 - to honor her and respect.

14:52 - The life

14:53 - of your loved one and so

14:55 - on behalf of a grateful commonwealth.

14:59 - May the memories

15:00 - of andrew.

15:02 - Of isaiah.

15:04 - Of cody.

15:05 - Of mark

15:06 - and of andy

15:08 - forever

15:09 - be a blessing.

15:11 - God bless you all.

15:27 - It is my privilege to introduce pennsylvania attorney general

15:30 - dave sunday.

15:32 - Laughs

15:39 - good evening

15:40 - it's an honor to be here with all of you tonight.

15:43 - Just forty five minutes south of here

15:45 - looking over the final resting place of those who

15:48 - died at gettysburg president abraham lincoln said

15:51 - the world will little note nor long remember what we say here

15:55 - but it can never forget what they did here.

15:59 - It is for us the living rather to be dedicated here

16:02 - to the us unfinished work

16:03 - which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.

16:08 - It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us

16:13 - that from these honored dead

16:15 - we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave

16:19 - the last full measure of devotion.

16:22 - That we here highly resolve.

16:25 - That these dead

16:26 - shall not have died in vain.

16:29 - Lincoln was speaking of course about the civil war but I can't help to hear his words

16:33 - and I think that they are applicable to this evening.

16:37 - We gather here tonight to do just that

16:40 - for these five men

16:41 - and one hundred and eleven officers across the nation

16:45 - who died in the line of duty

16:47 - in two thousand and twenty five

16:49 - to resolve ourself to continue the work

16:52 - that these officers

16:54 - will never get to finish

16:56 - to remember their sacrifice and support those who still grieve

17:01 - every single day.

17:04 - Through their tragic sacrifices

17:06 - they became known to the world

17:08 - and their memory became immortal.

17:11 - The names of patrolman andrew duarte.

17:14 - Detective mark baker.

17:17 - Detective sergeant cody becker.

17:19 - Detective isaiah m and heizer

17:22 - and police officer andy chan.

17:24 - Are etched in granite.

17:26 - On memorials in our nation's capital.

17:29 - Their names will forever be spoken with reverence

17:31 - by people who never knew them but stand in awe

17:34 - of their selfless sacrifice

17:37 - but long before they belong to the ages

17:41 - they belong to their families

17:43 - and to their friends

17:44 - and to their colleagues

17:46 - and although many people now.

17:48 - Know them as heroes.

17:50 - The most important people

17:52 - in their lives

17:54 - always knew that was the case

17:56 - and they all also knew them

17:58 - his dad

17:59 - son

18:00 - brother husband

18:03 - partner and friend.

18:05 - To all who knew the five officers we remember tonight

18:08 - words cannot express.

18:10 - The profound sorrow that I have for your loss

18:13 - and I know that feeling that that feeling is shared throughout

18:17 - many all throughout the commonwealth.

18:20 - Had the honor of knowing many of them and their memory stay with me every day

18:25 - as I do my work.

18:27 - A police officer should not be remembered

18:29 - for how he died but rather for how he lived.

18:33 - We're here for these men because they respectively

18:36 - responded to a hostage situation at a hospital a domestic violence call

18:41 - and they were carrying out what believed was a routine day

18:45 - but their final acts as officers are not what

18:47 - made them heroes rather what made them heroes

18:51 - were the countless calls that came before

18:53 - the final one.

18:55 - Each and every day

18:57 - our police officers go to scenes filled

19:00 - with unimaginable

19:01 - uncertainty

19:03 - unknown risks

19:04 - and unfathomable pain

19:07 - and then when they're done with that call you do you know what they do.

19:10 - They go right back

19:11 - and they do it again

19:13 - and they do it again

19:14 - and they do it again

19:16 - until their shift is done.

19:19 - The world expects them to have the answers

19:21 - to every single problem.

19:23 - Within split seconds all within

19:26 - one shift.

19:28 - Each day they don't know.

19:30 - What will face them

19:32 - and they don't have the luxury of being able to plan their day

19:36 - or choose their calls.

19:38 - They take people as they find them.

19:41 - They take them as they find them

19:43 - and we are blessed to live in a country

19:45 - that when you call nine one one because you're in endanger

19:48 - someone comes to your house

19:50 - to help.

19:51 - That's not the way it is everywhere.

19:54 - That's something that many take for granted but I promise you

19:58 - the literally thousands of people who sought help

20:02 - and received it from these officers thousands of people

20:06 - they will never forget.

20:09 - For too many

20:10 - officers and their families a seemingly routine nine one one call

20:13 - is the one that changed everything

20:16 - to those families you join a community

20:18 - that is incredible in it's strength

20:20 - a community of families of fallen officers

20:22 - who know what it's like to receive the knock on the

20:26 - door and hear the final watch as it's play played

20:29 - at one's funeral.

20:31 - Lean on them for support.

20:33 - As they are some of the very few people who truly know what you are going through.

20:39 - Being president present at these officers' funerals

20:43 - and hearing the stories about your loved ones

20:45 - and their impact on your families and their community

20:48 - was a profoundly moving experience

20:50 - that I will hold

20:51 - with me forever

20:53 - to the rest of us

20:55 - let us resolve

20:56 - to provide the support and compassion

20:59 - that these families need in their grief and take up the cause

21:02 - of these fallen officers.

21:04 - That's how we heed

21:06 - lincoln's call at the gettysburg.

21:10 - To be dedicated to the cause for which these men gave their last full

21:14 - measure of devotion.

21:16 - Their cause

21:18 - was the safety of our communities.

21:20 - The protection of their fellow officers

21:23 - and most importantly

21:25 - to love support and provide

21:27 - for their families

21:29 - with their watch ended

21:31 - their unfinished duty falls upon us.

21:33 - May we be up to the challenge and worthy

21:36 - of their sacrifice may god bless you all

21:39 - and may protect our law enforcement

21:41 - each and every day thank you.

21:56 - But this time I would like to introduce the honorable scott martin

22:01 - and the honorable brian munro

22:03 - to present the pennsylvania state senate

22:05 - and house rubber tent representative resolutions.

22:22 - Good evening everyone

22:24 - it's an honor to be here this evening and speak

22:26 - on behalf of all my senate colleagues who are

22:29 - sponsoring a senate resolution designating today

22:32 - as police officers memorial day and the week of may tenth

22:35 - through sixteenth as national police week in pennsylvania.

22:39 - I'm joined in this effort by sen kristin

22:41 - phillips hill and sen don kieffer of york county

22:45 - and sen vincent hughes of philadelphia county.

22:48 - I thank them for their leadership and honoring some of pennsylvania's greatest heroes

22:53 - and I thank the fraternal order of police for organizing this event every year

22:57 - in solemn remembrance of those who end of watch arrived for far too soon.

23:02 - As the son of a career police officer I understand the incredible pride

23:07 - in having a family member serving in the noble profession of law enforcement.

23:13 - I used to know and think of my dad and his courage and

23:15 - the dangers he may have faced on behalf of his community

23:18 - and I couldn't be prouder of his incredible courage and dedication to our community

23:23 - but the other side of that coin

23:25 - is that feeling of fear and uncertainty that he might not ever come home

23:29 - and what that would mean for me and my family.

23:32 - My my heart breaks for the families who had to confront that reality

23:36 - reading the stories of each of these heroes

23:40 - we honor here tonight is another reminder of

23:43 - the debt we owe to each and every man and woman

23:46 - who puts on the uniform

23:48 - and goes out to serve their community

23:50 - in spite of the threats they face

23:53 - to their own health

23:54 - and safety.

23:56 - But b goes way beyond mad if you look into the stories

24:00 - of each of these heroes.

24:04 - Many folks you know I I sat back february twenty first

24:08 - of twenty twenty five at west york high school.

24:12 - Watching a district three playoff game between

24:14 - the west york bulldogs and my son's team

24:17 - and sitting there there was a long line out the door

24:20 - and I recall seeing a young

24:23 - west york police officer.

24:26 - Interacting with kids in a way

24:28 - that you so often see.

24:31 - Officers doing.

24:34 - The kids respected them they had fun with them.

24:38 - I think about the story of cody becker

24:41 - and the day that as a fellow millersville wrestling alumni

24:45 - the day our textmate message threads started going crazy

24:49 - and the story

24:50 - of a division one qualifier one of the greatest

24:54 - wrestlers that ever come out of spring grove who

24:56 - when he was finished in two thousand and eight.

24:58 - Returned to his home community to help teach kids.

25:04 - I think of andy in philadelphia

25:06 - and just his absolute

25:09 - pride in philadelphia chinatown.

25:13 - And reading about his heroism in the two thousand and fifteen amtrak crash.

25:20 - I think a mark.

25:22 - Grandfather.

25:24 - Though you're going to have to explain the university of alabama thing.

25:27 - Die hard eagles fan.

25:29 - Eagle scout who

25:31 - despite his job as the detective and his law enforcement career.

25:36 - Was a scoutmaster.

25:38 - Still teaching integrity and character

25:41 - even when he wasn't in uniform.

25:45 - But above all else.

25:48 - They were dads their husbands they were loved ones they were sons and daughters.

25:53 - Please know if there's anything I learned growing up in a law enforcement family.

25:59 - As the governor referenced before.

26:02 - This entire commonwealth.

26:04 - Are entire communities

26:07 - and that amazing

26:09 - law enforcement family across the commonwealth

26:12 - are all one

26:13 - big family.

26:15 - The support doesn't stop at the precinct lines

26:18 - it extends to every single member of law enforcement

26:21 - every one of their families

26:23 - and every person who counts them

26:26 - as a friend

26:27 - to the families of the officers we memorialized tonight know

26:30 - that our hearts and our prayers will always be with you.

26:34 - Reading their stories will always serve as a powerful reminder

26:38 - of the debt we owe to our police

26:41 - for confronting evil on a daily basis

26:44 - so we can be safe

26:46 - and please know that we'll always be part of that family and you will always have our

26:50 - love and support for your tremendous loss.

26:53 - My colleague representative brian munro took the lead on sponsoring a companion

26:58 - resolution in the house of representatives

27:00 - and I invited him to say a few words at this time.

27:06 - Good evening.

27:09 - Wanted to start off by reading a

27:10 - very brief poem but sometimes.

27:14 - People get it right

27:15 - and their words are better than yours.

27:19 - And this is the thin blue line written by kimberly

27:22 - a herb.

27:24 - There was a line that protects us

27:26 - from harm made of those who follow a calling

27:30 - that many do not hear

27:32 - and when one leaves this line.

27:35 - They leave a legacy.

27:37 - But the line does not break.

27:40 - For the good do not die.

27:43 - They live on.

27:44 - In memories

27:46 - and in every heart

27:48 - that they've touched.

27:54 - We are here today to honour the five officers

27:56 - who gave everything for this commonwealth.

28:00 - But we are also here

28:02 - for you guys.

28:04 - The families

28:05 - to the spouses to the parents.

28:08 - The children and the friends we see your sacrifice.

28:12 - And we share your grief.

28:15 - They say harrisburg is divided but today

28:18 - those divisions

28:19 - stop at these doors.

28:21 - From the governor's office

28:23 - to both chambers

28:24 - of this legislature we stand as one.

28:28 - And as a former police officer and a proud member

28:31 - of the fraternal order of police.

28:33 - I am joined by my colleagues representatives week nic.

28:36 - Rigby and daugherty in introducing house resolution four seven nine

28:44 - and it didn't just pass.

28:46 - It passed

28:47 - unanimously

28:48 - two hundred and three to zero.

28:51 - That is the sound.

28:53 - Of one commonwealth.

28:55 - Speaking with one voice

28:58 - to say that we will never forget.
