In light of the NFL Draft in Pittsburgh, one of the PA Trolley Museum's renovated trains sports the iconic black and yellow from the Pittsburgh Steelers Super Bowl run from when Terry Bradshaw and Franco Harris hit the gridiron at Three Rivers Stadium. The trolley ran in the streets of Pittsburgh.
00:19 - Welcome to the trolley museum
00:21 - we have trolleys from all over the world
00:23 - importantly
00:24 - you will not just
00:25 - look at trolleys
00:27 - or hear about trolleys when you come down here you will ride
00:30 - a trolley
00:32 - An antique trolley that could be one hundred years old
00:35 - that is operating on our line and.
00:39 - Is
00:40 - accurate to the period including
00:42 - details such as the ad cards
00:44 - they will be accurate at a time period that that trolley was
00:48 - restored to so that's important
00:50 - so there are many ways our museum can acquire a trolley sometimes we get a phone call
00:55 - or sometimes we know
00:57 - that there's a trolley out there
00:59 - we believe that
01:01 - is important for interpretation
01:03 - and we'll contact the owner. there are fewer and fewer trolleys around now obviously
01:09 - but there are private collectors out there and for example with our
01:13 - newly restored.
01:15 - Pcc seventeen thirteen which is the terrible trolley
01:18 - we knew that that car was in a barn in Ohio by a private collector yes there are private
01:24 - collectors so we contacted this person who just happened to had to get rid of it
01:29 - for a number of reasons and that's how we acquired
01:31 - that particular car and then we restored it
01:33 - but sometimes we get a phone call
01:35 - saying hey i have a car are you interested
01:38 - and it's
01:39 - important to our mission
01:41 - to preserve what we can
01:43 - but it also has to be significant the car has to be
01:45 - special in history like is it the last one of its kind left
01:49 - was it a particular model that was important or innovative at the time
01:54 - so all those factors go into our accepting
01:57 - a car
01:58 - so this trolley.
02:00 - Was actually built for this particular line.
02:04 - Also the other line that ran out into the
02:06 - charleroi area
02:08 - so in many ways this is a homecoming for this trolley
02:11 - being back on its own rails again.
02:14 - Do you have one car that is your favorite one that you think is really distinctive.
02:19 - My favorite
02:20 - trolley right now is seventeen thirteen the terrible trolley because it's such a
02:24 - beautiful trolley and it's something that i
02:27 - actually remember as a child here in Pittsburgh
02:29 - i remember when it was rolled out on the city
02:32 - of Pittsburgh streets
02:33 - during the fan rally for Superbowl fourteen
02:37 - it was a very exciting time
02:39 - for this region
02:40 - with our super steelers winning four super bowls
02:43 - the car after we acquired it.
02:46 - Was restored in a little over two years which is an amazing restoration time
02:51 - usually takes up to five or even ten years or
02:53 - longer to restore a car so this car was restored
02:55 - fairly quickly and the paint job is absolutely gorgeous
02:58 - it's comfortable it's quiet
03:00 - it rides very smooth
03:02 - we actually have two volunteers
03:05 - currently with us who operated the car when it was in
03:07 - operation for the port authority of allegheny county.
