00:00 - Hi everyone i'm Kayla Fusselman the judge here at our Apiary department for baked

00:04 - goods here at the 2026 Pennsylvania farm show

00:07 - we are currently in our drop cookie category we have

00:11 - many options here.

00:13 - All different styles of cookies from peanut butter to chocolate chip.

00:17 - Oatmeal and any kind of any type of cookie that we i can think of

00:21 - our biggest stipulation

00:22 - when we look at our cookies the first thing we do

00:25 - is we look at their recipe which must be included

00:27 - in that recipe

00:29 - there has to be at least twenty five percent

00:31 - of the sugar the sweetener has to be honey

00:34 - so you can see we have one and one quarter cups of honey

00:37 - and the rest of the list there is no other sweetener

00:40 - like brown sugar or even granulated sugar

00:43 - so we can know that this one is now ready to be judged

00:46 - what we're going to

00:47 - look at is our entry there needs to be six cookies per

00:50 - entry and so this one that we're looking at right now

00:53 - has six cookies we want to look at their uniformity

00:56 - do they look about the same same size same shape.

00:59 - We're then going to look at

01:00 - they're outside appearance

01:02 - if they look like they're evenly baked as well.

01:05 - Flip them over and look at how they are if they're overdone or underdone

01:08 - our classes that were looking in our sections we're judging

01:11 - is the outside appearance which is worth thirty points

01:14 - inside for thirty

01:15 - the eating

01:17 - quality and taste testing aroma are twenty

01:19 - and then the aroma also so is an additional for twenty

01:22 - so what we do is we take our plate.

01:27 - And we will take a cookie

01:29 - and we'll first break it in half so

01:30 - you can see what it looks like it on my end.

01:33 - I'm going to sniff it to see what it smells like.

01:36 - This is a soft oatmeal drop cookie with fruit

01:39 - it says it comes with dark chocolate chips

01:41 - and cherries or raisins and then we'll try it.

01:47 - it's got a lot of flavor.

01:50 - I can taste chocolate

01:51 - i can taste the fruit

01:53 - and at the very end you taste the honey which is a really good thing to have

01:56 - in a honey flavor sweetened cookie.

01:59 - great and now the hard part is.

02:01 - There are so many

02:03 - cookies here as you can see that i now have to taste all of them

02:07 - and compare how the flavors are.

02:09 - The aroma

02:10 - the tastes the outside appearance the inside appearance

02:13 - and try to pick the best one that represents honey as a sweetener in our cookies

02:17 - and a great representative of our farm show this year
