00:04 - hello from Happy Valley I'm PCN Chief Videographer Dave Scarnato and we're at the

00:08 - PIAA spring sports championships at penn state university in state college

00:12 - so here's what's going on we have four different sports

00:14 - with four different crews

00:16 - in four different days

00:17 - so how do we do it

00:18 - let's take a little behind the scenes look

00:21 - Let's start with baseball

00:22 - we have a crew of a dozen

00:23 - at Medlar field

00:25 - over a span of two days we will cover six games live on PCN

00:28 - from our production truck to the press box we set up seven cameras and build the

00:32 - broadcast booth and high above home for top-notch

00:34 - play calling his we crown the best ballplayers

00:37 - in the commonwealth

00:37 - Alright Matt, what's it like doing this juggling act with 4 sports on one weekend

00:42 - that's a lot.

00:43 - We do have to have four separate crews that all work independent of each other at four

00:46 - different sites at penn state we have baseball softball

00:49 - lacrosse and boys volleyball and on top of that

00:51 - this year we are covering events in gettysburg

00:53 - we have five crews out in the commonwealth four up here at penn state it's pretty cool

00:57 - I've been with PCN since the early 2000s I've been with them for a long time

01:01 - and one thing I've learned is how important teamwork is

01:05 - you know each of these teams works together to accomplish

01:08 - the job in front of them and behind me we have baseball

01:10 - so we have a crew in the truck and our camera operators out here

01:13 - things are going very smoothly

01:15 - and it's wonderful to work with such a talented team

01:18 - here and also

01:19 - back at PCN we have our operations team the marketing team people on help desk

01:23 - That all work together to make something like this come together.

01:30 - our next stop is softball

01:31 - where we literally go to the bullpen

01:33 - we bring in our friends from Service Electric to handle the production as the state's

01:37 - best softball players take the field for the gold

01:40 - It's their whole crew and i'm kind of the middleman here

01:44 - so i'm communicating with them

01:46 - back at PCN and then i'm communicating breaks to them and calling for reads

01:51 - All right so you're a videographer by trade here at

01:53 - PCN now you're

01:54 - serving in the role of producer for this

01:56 - how is it nice

01:57 - to break up the

01:58 - monotony.

02:00 - it's a lot more relaxing i'd say

02:03 - i'm lucky i get to be here in the air conditioning and not out in the sun but

02:06 - I enjoy working with the Service Electric crew lot of great guys over there so

02:11 - yeah it's a good

02:11 - change of pace

02:12 - alright let's get out of the sun for a bit and head indoors for our volleyball

02:16 - coverage where i'm going to be serving as producer and director here

02:18 - at Rec Hall

02:19 - we have a stellar crew here

02:21 - we run a three camera show with Gary and Jackie calling the action

02:24 - of the four events this weekend we have the least amount of television with only two

02:28 - games and finally we end coverage with lacrosse

02:31 - we make a control room insid our cargo van

02:33 - with Corey Clarke directing and Ryan on replay

02:35 - we use a three camera set up with a fresh crew from Camp Hill once the games are

02:39 - over and new champions crowned we tear down and head back home to base

02:43 - and that'll do it from penn state for the PIAA sports championship weekend it was

02:47 - a busy busy weekend for the PCN crew

02:49 - but not busy enough to stop at the Berkey Creamery for an ice cream
