Mullet Contest at the Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg
00:01 - I appreciate everybody taking a day off.
00:04 - Coming out.
00:05 - Show off the mullets.
00:07 - My friends like it and everything.
00:09 - They call me Joe Dirt.
00:10 - My mom also thought they were cool.
00:12 - Yeah, and I was the 2024.
00:16 - So today it's our second annual mullet contest.
00:19 - Last year we had a ton of entries.
00:21 - This year it looks like even more.
00:23 - So we'll just be judging the swagger, the flair of everyone's mullet
00:27 - and giving away some awesome prizes.
00:29 - We had 102 pre entries and we're also accepting day of entries as well.
00:34 - Mullet is definitely short on top, long on back.
00:37 - Sometimes side shaved.
00:40 - Depends how extreme you want to go.
00:42 - It's definitely a pretty popular, style these days.
00:46 - And the farm community, as well as
00:48 - the more like urban communities, I think, too, now.
00:51 - So it's definitely got a wide range of variety.
00:54 - We mainly do mullets at my hair salon, so that's kind of what we're known for.
00:58 - So we get people coming in asking for mullets all the time.
01:01 - And, we love it.
01:02 - Sometimes we'll even perm them to make them extra awesome.
01:06 - But, yeah, we love doing them all.
01:08 - All right, number 20. What is it?
01:10 - What is your name?
01:11 - Landon. Really?
01:12 - The first thing that wanted me to get my mullet grown out was because I'm a ginger.
01:17 - I have very sensitive skin,
01:19 - and it would always make me upset whenever I got my neck, like, sunburned.
01:22 - All right, 13 to 18.
01:24 - Let's kick it off with Braden. Number five.
01:27 - I've been going out for like five, six years.
01:31 - And what brought me to it was a little baseball thing that went
01:36 - on my buddy's head.
01:37 - If we lost a game, we would have to cut it.
01:40 - And come to find out, we went undefeated and won the championship.
01:44 - All right.
01:44 - Number 55, Romeo Valdez. Oh.
01:52 - I like the style.
01:53 - Well, I'm not sure.
01:56 - Like a couple months ago, I was,
01:59 - Well, I had swim lessons.
02:03 - You know, it was like, this is like, this guy.
02:07 - Kind of like a lifeguard who he had.
02:09 - Look, mullet.
02:09 - And I thought. I thought the mullet look really cool.
02:12 - So I asked my mom, like, someday I could get a haircut, have mullet.
02:17 - Well, that happened one week ago.
02:19 - Look at this guy. Wow.
02:21 - Almost by me.
02:23 - Is going to go up on a stage.
02:26 - I'm looking forward to going up there and just, like, trying everything out.
02:31 - Maybe I'll win.
02:31 - Maybe I won't.
02:33 - Just having a good time.
02:34 - Just having a good time. Just the fun of it.
02:37 - Bunch of new people that look the same in
02:42 - everything else.
02:44 - Are judging. She.
02:45 - It's just are really overall mullet creativity and your swagger.
02:50 - So we want to see people up here putting on a show.
02:54 - Flaunting your mullets that we like the outfits.
02:57 - Oh, that kind of stuff makes a really big difference for each smaller category.
03:02 - For the ages, we just have gift bags that like candy, toys.
03:06 - Hair products, brushes, combs, that kind of stuff.
03:08 - And then the main prize we have, like, working gloves, hand warmers,
03:13 - coffee cups, gift cards, all kinds of stuff like that.
03:17 - How many of you noticed the, front end of the Camaro sitting up here?
03:21 - Who thought that was cool?
03:23 - So that is the grand prize for this contest.
03:27 - So whoever wins, whoever has the best mullet
03:30 - today gets to take that home with them and put them in their bedroom,
03:32 - put it in their living room, whatever you think.
03:34 - And it's not just winning.
03:36 - It's just, you know, it's having fun also.
03:40 - And the winner of the best in show is Romeo
03:43 - Best and grow ocean city, Maryland.
03:48 - Like a couple days ago,
03:50 - my grandpa, my grandfather, like, probably got.
03:54 - I think he got a text from, like, one of his buddies.
03:58 - And then he told me
03:59 - that he almost forgot that there was a mullet competition going on here.
04:03 - Harrisburg.
04:04 - And, and then I almost forgot about that.
04:07 - So instead of just, like, not coming, I want to know.
04:11 - I want to make sure I was there, like, looking fresh because I knew
04:15 - it was a big deal because, like, it's like it's like it's like a really big deal.
04:20 - It's not just a competition. Not just anyone.
04:23 - It's a really special one.
04:25 - I think honestly, over like the lockdown and stuff, people started
04:30 - not being so serious about, you know, what they look like
04:33 - at work, what they look like, you know, and like a professional setting.
04:37 - So they were getting a little more flexible with their style.
04:39 - And they're awesome.
04:41 - They're really versatile and people just love them.
04:43 - They make everyone smile.
