00:10 - governor Tom wolf
00:11 - Pennsylvania's forty
00:12 - seventh governor for those
00:13 - that aren't familiar
00:14 - how would you
00:14 - describe the job
00:15 - of the governor.
00:16 - Well I'm i'm
00:17 - probably the most visible
00:19 - face.
00:20 - Of of this.
00:21 - State government.
00:23 - But I work with with two
00:24 - hundred and fifty three.
00:26 - Legislators senators and
00:28 - representatives
00:29 - to.
00:30 - Make laws
00:31 - in in pass laws.
00:33 - I propose.
00:34 - The
00:35 - legislation
00:36 - laws.
00:37 - I get a chance to
00:38 - negotiate to talk
00:40 - to have conversations
00:41 - with the general
00:41 - assembly to try to
00:42 - convince them of my ideas
00:43 - they try to convince
00:44 - me of theirs.
00:45 - And then ultimately I
00:46 - get to sign those bills or
00:48 - say nah we're not
00:49 - going to do that.
00:50 - And I also.
00:52 - Manage the
00:53 - the executive
00:54 - branch all the different
00:55 - agencies.
00:56 - And
00:57 - I do that.
00:59 - In an effort to make
01:00 - sure that we're all
01:01 - doing the best we can
01:02 - to serve the people of
01:03 - Pennsylvania.
01:04 - He talked about working
01:05 - with the legislature
01:06 - can you talk a
01:06 - little bit more about
01:08 - the three branches of
01:08 - government and your
01:09 - relationship with them
01:10 - and how everybody
01:11 - works together
01:12 - yeah the three branches
01:13 - of government here
01:13 - in the state level
01:14 - just as there are in
01:15 - Washington
01:16 - others the executive
01:17 - branch that's
01:18 - the
01:18 - governor her and in
01:19 - the the all the different.
01:22 - Agencies.
01:24 - Then there's the
01:24 - general assembly
01:25 - or the legislative
01:26 - branch and there are
01:27 - two houses the senate.
01:29 - And the
01:30 - the house of representatives.
01:32 - And then there is the.
01:35 - Judiciary the
01:36 - the.
01:37 - Court system.
01:38 - The state court system including
01:40 - up to the highest level of
01:41 - the state supreme court.
01:42 - What's a typical
01:43 - day like for you.
01:45 - Well.
01:46 - It's.
01:47 - It's a combination of of of.
01:50 - Working with people in the
01:51 - executive my branch this branch.
01:54 - To figure out
01:55 - what we ought to be proposing.
01:57 - And.
01:58 - What kinds of
01:59 - legislation.
02:01 - For example.
02:03 - What can we do to make
02:04 - sure that school lunches
02:05 - are everything they ought to be.
02:08 - He.
02:08 - Gets to two levels like that
02:10 - how can we make sure highways.
02:12 - Are as safe
02:14 - as they they can be
02:15 - so things like that
02:16 - they spend a lot of time.
02:18 - Talking to people who who
02:19 - want to.
02:20 - Do things with the state have
02:22 - they have their own ideas.
02:24 - And want to make
02:25 - suggestions so I need to hear.
02:27 - Those those
02:27 - suggestions and I spend
02:28 - as much time as I can doing that
02:30 - and then sometimes I
02:31 - spend time doing this.
02:33 - Why is it
02:34 - important for students to learn
02:35 - how the government works.
02:36 - It's important because we work
02:39 - for
02:39 - the citizens of Pennsylvania
02:41 - I'm an employee.
02:42 - And my bosses are the voters.
02:45 - And so it's important
02:45 - for everybody to
02:46 - understand how the
02:47 - government works because in
02:48 - the end.
02:49 - In the act of voting.
02:51 - They determine
02:52 - who the employees are who
02:53 - who people in my
02:54 - position really are so
02:56 - I work for them and
02:57 - and as employers.
02:58 - People who hire me and
03:00 - vote for me or vote against me.
03:02 - Or anybody else here.
03:04 - They need to know how
03:05 - the government works
03:06 - and and what they
03:06 - want that government to
03:07 - do for them.
