(2019) PCN Tours KME Fire Trucks in Nesquehoning, PA

Caption Text Below:

00:18 - My name is Brian Connely

00:19 - vice president general

00:19 - manager of KME Fire.

00:22 - We'd like to welcome you to

00:23 - our facility.

00:23 - We're located in

00:24 - Nesquehoning, Pennsylvania

00:25 - which is in Carbon County

00:27 - which is in the start of

00:28 - the Pocono Mountain area.

00:29 - We employ over 600

00:31 - employees here at our

00:31 - facility.

00:33 - We also have facilities in

00:34 - Roanoke Virginia and a

00:35 - maintenance facility and

00:36 - serviced facility in

00:38 - Riverside California as

00:39 - well.

00:40 - What you're gonna be seeing

00:40 - today is our manufacturing

00:42 - process of custom and

00:44 - commercial fire trucks. We

00:45 - build over 300 fire trucks

00:46 - a year. They go all over

00:48 - the world all over the

00:49 - country from east coast to

00:51 - west coast to Alaska to

00:54 - overseas as well.

00:56 - KME Fire was started in

00:57 - 1947 as a two car garage by

01:00 - John Sonny Colebatch and is

01:02 - operated up until recently

01:05 - in 2016 when the Rev group

01:07 - had bought them out

01:08 - purchase them.

01:09 - So today we're KME Fire a

01:10 - division of the revenue.

01:12 - So welcome and enjoy the

01:14 - tour.

01:16 - We're here on our custom

01:17 - fab line where the process

01:19 - starts with us building our

01:20 - custom fire engine cab.

01:23 - Majority of our cabs and

01:24 - vehicles that we make our

01:25 - custom cab.

01:26 - You can see we start with a

01:28 - base section of the cab and

01:30 - slowly weld it up.

01:31 - You can see our folks

01:33 - welding together that piece

01:34 - right now, as you can see

01:40 - we're at the next stage of

01:41 - our cab welding it where

01:43 - you can see a little bit

01:44 - more of the cab taking

01:45 - place.

01:46 - So now what you're seeing

01:48 - is you start seeing it take

01:49 - form with an engine tunnel

01:52 - measuring across for the

01:53 - width of a cab.

01:55 - You can see the back wall

01:57 - to the cab being put

01:58 - together and some of the

01:59 - sidewall again we're

02:04 - further along in our cab

02:05 - process.

02:06 - You start to see the cab

02:08 - taking shape.

02:08 - Now the welding the front

02:10 - portion of the cab the roof

02:12 - come together from what you

02:15 - saw before I can see where

02:17 - the engine will be mounted

02:19 - on the headlight.

02:21 - And he said emergency

02:22 - lighting and obviously the

02:23 - roof structure and so on

02:33 - once the cab welded.

02:35 - This is our final product

02:36 - here.

02:37 - We're getting ready to go

02:38 - in to have everything be

02:40 - sanded down and primer and

02:43 - then painted.

02:44 - But you can see in the

02:45 - inside places where we have

02:46 - our see mounted windows air

02:49 - conditioning just all the

02:51 - structure of the cab itself

02:53 - again from where we started

02:54 - the beginning.

02:56 - Here's where we end up

02:57 - before it goes in our final

02:58 - process for the paint once

03:03 - we get some of our cab.

03:05 - Then we'll come back and

03:06 - get our doors.

03:06 - Our doors are custom as

03:08 - well.

03:09 - We make all these doors

03:10 - here but they'll actually

03:11 - go through fit up the doors

03:13 - and they'll start grinding

03:14 - and welding are taking all

03:16 - the welds down and cleaning

03:17 - up the cab.

03:18 - That's what he's doing here

03:19 - taking off all rough edges

03:21 - and getting them ready to

03:23 - be sanded and primed and

03:24 - painted.

03:24 - We want that nice smooth

03:26 - finish that you'll see once

03:27 - everything's painted so he

03:29 - takes his time and goes

03:30 - through and gets any extra

03:31 - well-marked or any

03:32 - deferring that needs to

03:33 - take place the building our

03:47 - custom cabs everything a

03:49 - lot of the parts actually

03:50 - that go on or are custom as

03:51 - well including our doors.

03:52 - So here you see some of our

03:53 - doors getting put together

03:55 - that we just saw in our

03:56 - cab.

03:57 - So what we're doing here is

03:58 - getting the door framed up

03:59 - and getting ready to weld

04:00 - those components on for a

04:02 - cab door.

04:04 - Once we have them set up in

04:05 - place we'll come over here

04:08 - after they're welded and

04:13 - again doing the same thing

04:14 - taking down any. The

04:17 - barring. All those things

04:18 - to make that smooth finish

04:19 - to have this door primer

04:21 - sanded primer and paint it

04:34 - and then over here we have

04:37 - some of the final doors

04:39 - that are ready to go and be

04:42 - painted and eventually will

04:43 - be put up on our custom map

04:51 - and here we're in our

04:52 - machine shop again.

04:53 - We do a lot of custom

04:54 - parts.

04:55 - So what happens is we

04:56 - actually put a piece of

04:57 - stock material in a machine

04:59 - that's been program and a

05:01 - lot of manically cut what

05:03 - we need and how we need it

05:04 - based off the program.

05:06 - So you'll see the the

05:07 - liquid there that obviously

05:08 - helps lubricate the

05:10 - drillings for this.

05:11 - And we have a whole shop

05:13 - with a few of these

05:13 - machines again when we deal

05:23 - with a lot of custom bars

05:24 - we have a lot of people

05:26 - that are involved with it.

05:27 - Machinist and what not.

05:29 - So what he's doing now is

05:30 - markets apart and actually

05:32 - taking one of our older

05:33 - presses and making the

05:35 - material that we need.

05:54 - Change the bit on it.

05:55 - What he needs and then

05:56 - he'll put a new bit in the

05:58 - appropriate fit and then do

05:59 - what he needs to do.

07:30 - We'll have to we have

07:31 - everything deferred and

07:32 - cleaned up.

07:33 - That's going to come in

07:34 - here where they're going to

07:35 - take it down pleated down a

07:36 - little bit more where

07:38 - they'll get ready to put a

07:39 - primer on the primer goes

07:40 - on just before paint.

07:42 - So we make sure that we

07:43 - have a nice coat covered on

07:45 - our paint and whatnot.

07:49 - So once we get everything

07:50 - cleaned up we'll get ready

07:51 - and bodywork the cab and

07:54 - get ready to have a primer

07:55 - so that primer is the base

07:57 - before it gets painted.

07:58 - So right now this cab is

08:00 - ready to get primer world

08:02 - want to paint which you can

08:03 - see how everything's marked

08:05 - off a nice and smooth and

08:06 - ready for that primer so

08:11 - after we've done our prep

08:13 - you can see a primer cab.

08:15 - So this cab has been primer

08:17 - and it'll get ready to be

08:18 - painted once it goes from

08:21 - here we'll go into one of

08:22 - our paint booths.

08:23 - It will be painted and once

08:25 - it's done paint it being

08:26 - painted it comes out to our

08:29 - group over here.

08:31 - Well they'll go through and

08:32 - again they'll buff the cab

08:34 - they'll inspect it they'll

08:36 - make sure that gets that

08:37 - nice good paint a nice

08:39 - shine to it good quality

08:41 - and so on.

08:42 - So what they're doing is

08:43 - buffing everything down

08:44 - they're checking out

08:46 - anything that they would

08:46 - see imperfections and

08:47 - whatnot.

09:09 - And then over here you'll

09:12 - see some of our our final

09:13 - caps that have been painted

09:16 - after they've been buffed

09:17 - off and inspected.

09:18 - So you see a nice shiny

09:19 - paint red over white.

09:21 - Any color the customer

09:22 - wants.

09:24 - Reds predominant.

09:25 - But again the customer can

09:27 - pick and choose any color

09:29 - that they'd like through

09:35 - this section.

09:36 - We have a lot of pieces and

09:37 - parts that are going

09:38 - together for each truck

09:39 - each vehicle that we do has

09:41 - a number assigned to it and

09:42 - parts tracking so there's a

09:44 - lot of components that go

09:46 - to the vehicle.

09:47 - So down through here we're

09:48 - actually getting components

09:49 - ready.

09:50 - It could be different

09:51 - covers it could be boxes

09:53 - tread plate aluminum and

09:55 - whatnot.

09:55 - So what we're doing over

09:56 - here is we're getting ready

09:57 - to do a compartment for an

09:59 - inside of a cab.

10:00 - So what he's doing is he's

10:01 - laid the compartment out

10:03 - put the parts together as

10:04 - well the fitting a door and

10:06 - whatnot and there's the

10:07 - same process we do for cab

10:09 - again.

10:09 - Things need to be put

10:10 - together welded.

10:12 - They need to be deferred.

10:13 - Ready to be painted.

10:14 - Whatever we need to do.

10:15 - So you'll see him.

10:16 - Like I said fitting a door

10:18 - doing some welding.

10:19 - Whatever he needs to do to

10:20 - fix that or to make that

10:21 - component you'll see some

10:37 - of the doors that we made

10:38 - you'll see some of our door

10:39 - hinges.

10:40 - And again a lot of moving

10:41 - parts do what we do.

10:43 - So these are some of the

10:44 - plates that go on top our

10:45 - doors or inside our door

10:47 - panels that get a

10:49 - reflective stripe on it so

10:51 - that we can see the the

10:52 - interior the door when

10:54 - they're open out on the

10:56 - street.

10:56 - But again pieces that have

10:59 - to get cut they have to get

11:00 - welded bird and whatnot.

11:01 - So he's getting those types

11:02 - of things ready so where we

11:10 - left off before with our

11:11 - cap just being painted

11:12 - right now the caps are on

11:14 - our cap line they're being

11:15 - put together we'll start to

11:17 - see some of the hardware

11:19 - that goes into the doors

11:20 - that we saw being made.

11:21 - They'll do window

11:22 - regulators getting ready

11:23 - for the windows.

11:25 - You'll start to see some

11:26 - trim being done as well

11:27 - where you can see we have

11:29 - some tread plate steps and

11:30 - the final touches getting

11:32 - ready to put some

11:32 - insulation and some foreign

11:34 - material on there.

11:35 - This is all after the cabs

11:37 - been painted with that

11:38 - interior.

11:39 - We're also doing air

11:40 - conditioning unit

11:40 - installation right now so

11:42 - you could see just working

11:43 - on the overhead we started

11:45 - to run our hoses and our

11:47 - setups for the air

11:48 - conditioner.

11:50 - He's up there getting ready

11:51 - to put the unit right on

11:51 - the roof but this is just

11:53 - part of the next step of

11:55 - our capturing process and

12:01 - as we continue through

12:02 - you'll start to see where

12:03 - some of the wiring a lot of

12:04 - the wiring is getting run

12:06 - for the cab.

12:07 - You'll see the AC the air

12:09 - conditioning hoses and as

12:11 - we keep going up further

12:12 - and further on this line

12:14 - you'll start to see more

12:14 - wiring.

12:15 - You'll start to see more

12:16 - lights getting installed on

12:18 - the unit as we just keep

12:20 - progressing.

12:22 - You'll see more of the

12:22 - doors being complete and

12:24 - we'll get to a point we can

12:25 - start seeing some switch

12:26 - panels being done and again

12:36 - more wires we start to see

12:38 - the emergency lights being

12:39 - put on the vehicle on the

12:40 - cab.

12:42 - Again there's so many

12:43 - different variations and

12:44 - configurations of lights

12:46 - for a fire truck.

12:47 - All based on a customer's

12:49 - requirements each

12:50 - customer's a little bit

12:51 - different based on their

12:52 - area based on their what

12:54 - they do.

12:55 - But these folks are

12:56 - actually running some of

12:57 - the air conditioning units.

12:58 - You can see some of the

12:59 - flooring installation

13:01 - that's been installed.

13:02 - They're working on some of

13:03 - the insulation on the back

13:04 - wall right now because we

13:07 - want to keep noise down.

13:08 - We want to obviously make

13:09 - sure that our first

13:10 - responders are kept warm

13:11 - and cold climates and

13:12 - they're also cool in the

13:14 - warmer climates.

13:15 - So a lot goes into into the

13:18 - cab of fire truck as you

13:24 - can see we now have seats

13:26 - mount in the cab.

13:28 - So we have seats that are

13:29 - forward facing and rear

13:30 - facing seats.

13:33 - The air conditioning setup

13:34 - is in as well.

13:35 - And we also have as we move

13:38 - to the front you'll be able

13:40 - to see them actually wiring

13:41 - the dash.

13:42 - So we talk about a lot of

13:43 - wiring systems new

13:46 - technology what we're doing

13:48 - here is we're getting ready

13:49 - to get those things setup

13:51 - in the dash area.

14:03 - So what he's doing right

14:04 - now is we're put again

14:06 - where the cab tilts and so

14:08 - it off the frame so that

14:09 - the cab can tilt so that we

14:12 - can do any type of engine

14:13 - work for any type of fluid

14:15 - checks or access underneath

14:17 - a cab.

14:17 - So he's putting in the the

14:18 - mounts for that for that

14:20 - particular component so as

14:26 - we're coming to the end of

14:27 - our cab it you'll see a lot

14:30 - of the dashes and switches

14:33 - and gauges are in place.

14:34 - You see overhead lighting

14:36 - in place switch panels.

14:37 - Any type of electrical

14:39 - systems monitoring systems

14:41 - as well.

14:42 - If we come around towards

14:44 - the front of the unit we

14:47 - can see that our glass has

14:49 - been put in windshield

14:50 - light bars any other type

14:52 - of scene lighting turn

14:55 - signals.

14:56 - Again we're coming down to

14:57 - the end of a completed cab.

14:59 - So as we get down at this

15:00 - point obviously you'll see

15:01 - more and more things that

15:02 - are complete ball the

15:08 - larger size custom cabs you

15:10 - see.

15:11 - You'll notice we also do

15:12 - custom tailor cabs.

15:14 - So these are the cabs on

15:15 - the back of a tiller fire

15:18 - engine with a ladder on it

15:19 - so they can drive it and

15:20 - steer from the back.

15:21 - So it's a smaller version

15:23 - of what you saw front but

15:26 - they have some of the same

15:26 - features the seating air

15:28 - conditioning a type of heat

15:29 - some switches overhead

15:30 - lighting.

15:31 - Again a small single person

15:34 - to drive and steer the back

15:35 - end of a ladder truck known

15:37 - as a tiller once we've made

15:45 - it off the cab line with

15:46 - all the components

15:47 - installed.

15:48 - Basically the cab sitting

15:49 - here waiting to be mounted.

15:50 - So you'll see that the

15:51 - doors are on most of the

15:52 - switching is done.

15:54 - So all it's waiting for now

15:55 - is to be put on top of the

15:56 - chassis where it'll be

15:58 - driven out of this

15:59 - building.

16:00 - But again everything's

16:01 - ready to be be installed on

16:03 - the chassis from this point

16:04 - from what we saw on our cab

16:06 - line and all the components

16:08 - and what we have here is

16:09 - right now we're getting our

16:10 - engine ready to be

16:11 - installed.

16:12 - So we saw the cab being

16:13 - done and get ready to put a

16:14 - line before we get in or

16:17 - showing how we do our

16:17 - chassis frame rails we're

16:19 - actually setting up the

16:19 - engine and making sure that

16:21 - it's set up properly

16:23 - mounting things such as the

16:24 - alternator is getting ready

16:25 - for the transmission doing

16:27 - any type of wiring and

16:28 - hoses or belts that need to

16:29 - be done.

16:30 - Fluid fills and checks.

16:32 - So once he's done with it

16:34 - will be ready to get

16:34 - mounted on that chassis and

16:36 - ready for a cab to be

16:37 - mounted.

16:43 - A lot of the pieces that we

16:44 - saw some of the folks

16:44 - putting together our plant

16:47 - end up in our warehousing

16:48 - area here.

16:49 - So a lot of these parts

16:50 - you'll see are getting

16:51 - ready to be put on on our

16:53 - chassis.

16:53 - So we just have them all

16:55 - ready to go.

16:56 - They're all well built up

16:57 - and whatnot labeled with

16:58 - part numbers so that we can

16:59 - pull them off the shelf and

17:01 - get the mounted torch.

17:03 - Again a lot of these

17:04 - components mostly

17:04 - components are made

17:05 - in-house.

17:06 - So that's what we deal with

17:07 - when you see all of us

17:09 - fabrication in the other

17:10 - facilities so what we're

17:17 - doing here is we get our

17:18 - frame rolls we're getting

17:19 - ready for our chassis

17:20 - together.

17:21 - So our frame rails come in

17:22 - as base rails.

17:23 - We get put together come in

17:25 - here and what they're doing

17:26 - is they're setting up

17:27 - getting ready for axles or

17:29 - any type of brackets we're

17:30 - mounting that needs to be

17:31 - mounted along the for the

17:33 - chassis.

17:34 - You see some of the springs

17:38 - everything is set up so

17:40 - that they can come in and

17:41 - assemble it and attach all

17:42 - the pieces that they need

17:43 - to attach.

17:46 - So here we have an actual

17:47 - mount on those frame rails

17:48 - that we just saw.

17:50 - And what will happen after

17:51 - this once they're completed

17:52 - with the other set of or

17:53 - the other axle to go in our

17:55 - paint booth down here will

17:56 - be painted.

17:57 - We paint them any type of

17:59 - color again based on what

18:00 - the customer requires.

18:03 - Most of them are black.

18:04 - But again you'll see reds

18:06 - yellows greens anything

18:07 - that the customer would

18:09 - like to paint it again goes

18:10 - in our paint booth here.

18:11 - And then once it's done our

18:12 - paint booth we'll see it on

18:14 - the other side and see with

18:15 - the work they're doing with

18:16 - it once they're out or a

18:20 - paint booth with our

18:21 - chassis you'll start to see

18:23 - some other things

18:23 - happening.

18:24 - You'll start to see a lot

18:25 - of airlines being run and

18:27 - components for the chassis.

18:30 - There's a lot of wiring

18:31 - that needs to be done and

18:32 - wired along the frame

18:34 - rails.

18:34 - We have fuel tanks any type

18:36 - of sending units all those

18:38 - things with components of

18:40 - the chassis and if we come

18:43 - over here we'll be able to

18:45 - see a little bit further

18:46 - along with some more of our

18:48 - our wiring our sending type

18:50 - units our air systems and

18:52 - whatnot.

18:52 - So a lot of airlines a lot

18:54 - of electrical lines

18:55 - everything to make the

18:56 - chassis run again once this

19:17 - is completed it would go to

19:18 - our next spot we'll get

19:19 - ready for the engine

19:21 - mounting which we saw them

19:22 - previously setting up the

19:23 - engine so the engine's

19:24 - ready to go and be mounted

19:26 - at this point.

19:26 - We'll see that in our next

19:27 - stop so after the chassis

19:32 - is ready to at this point

19:33 - we did see the engine get

19:35 - set up a bit chassis gets

19:36 - put in or the engine gets

19:37 - put into the chassis and

19:39 - what they're doing is

19:40 - setting everything up so

19:41 - all those wires and any

19:43 - type of lines and and

19:44 - sending units and hoses

19:46 - that you saw previous we're

19:48 - setting those up and making

19:49 - things everything's

19:50 - connected and ready to

19:51 - power the chassis.

19:54 - But again we've got the

19:55 - transmission in at this

19:56 - point getting all the fluid

19:58 - lines and everything

19:59 - together.

20:00 - We also have the the

20:02 - radiator and the fans all

20:03 - mounted up as well.

20:05 - We've got batteries

20:06 - installed at this point and

20:08 - basically everything that

20:09 - we need to to push this

20:11 - chassis and here's where

20:17 - they come together.

20:18 - So we saw where we made our

20:19 - cabs.

20:20 - We saw we outfitted an

20:21 - outfit at all our cabs.

20:23 - We saw we did the chassis.

20:24 - So as these two components

20:26 - come together this is

20:28 - getting to the final

20:29 - product.

20:30 - We now have the cab mounted

20:32 - to the chassis.

20:33 - You can see the engines in

20:34 - there and ready to go and

20:35 - tucked up all the lines are

20:36 - there waiting for a fuel

20:37 - filters cabs on it or doing

20:39 - some final trim work on the

20:41 - cab.

20:42 - But when this cab is done

20:44 - and when he's done doing

20:44 - what he needs to do we can

20:45 - actually lower this cab in

20:47 - this cab.

20:47 - We'll be ready to be driven

20:48 - out of this building

20:50 - towards the next process.

20:59 - And here we have some

20:59 - bumpers being setup.

21:00 - We do numerous custom

21:02 - bumper configurations but

21:04 - you can see this is a

21:05 - bumper that they just got

21:07 - done drilling out mounting

21:08 - air horns mounting sirens

21:10 - lights running electrical.

21:12 - You have a hose.

21:13 - Well again it's based on

21:14 - whatever the the customer

21:16 - requires us to do for them.

21:18 - And then further on you'll

21:20 - see in one of the next

21:21 - steps where we'll be

21:23 - installing that custom from

21:24 - far from another vehicle.

21:25 - But again they start here.

21:27 - Everything gets mounted up

21:28 - so we can take it to the

21:29 - vehicle and mount up for

21:31 - its final final destination

21:33 - on the truck.

21:36 - So what you see is we've

21:37 - got a bumper extension

21:39 - being put on here.

21:40 - This is a obviously another

21:42 - custom bumper extension you

21:44 - can see different hose

21:45 - walls and lids.

21:46 - You can see different

21:48 - sirens and lights.

21:49 - He's putting in some eyes

21:50 - for any type of towing.

21:53 - Basically again this is one

21:54 - of the last things that

21:55 - gets done before the

21:57 - chassis and the cab roll

21:59 - out of this out of this

22:00 - building and onto the next

22:01 - spot.

22:26 - So one of the final things

22:27 - you'll see coming out of

22:28 - the building here before it

22:29 - goes on next step is it

22:30 - goes through Q A process

22:32 - our quality process so we

22:33 - have inspectors that go

22:34 - through make sure

22:35 - everything function

22:36 - properly.

22:37 - Make sure our tires as far

22:38 - as alignment are set up.

22:40 - So at this stage that's

22:41 - what they're doing here

22:42 - they're going over lists.

22:43 - They're setting things up

22:45 - before it goes out of the

22:46 - building.

22:48 - And here we get a little

22:49 - bit of a behind the scenes

22:50 - look at what goes on.

22:52 - You saw a lot of the

22:54 - electrical components and

22:55 - dash panels and want not

22:57 - being put into the

22:57 - vehicles.

22:58 - But here is where they

22:59 - actually doing some of the

23:00 - pre wiring and harnesses

23:02 - and setting things up so

23:03 - that when they're done with

23:04 - it they can go out and be

23:05 - placed in the truck and

23:06 - installed.

23:06 - So again a lot of behind

23:07 - scenes were getting things

23:09 - ready dash panel switches

23:11 - that's some of the things

23:12 - that they're doing through

23:13 - here.

23:21 - This is our main warehouse

23:22 - so you'll see a bunch of

23:24 - different things everything

23:25 - that gets put on one of the

23:26 - vehicles either in the cab

23:27 - or on the body.

23:28 - Anything from a pump to a

23:30 - real to seats to wiring

23:33 - components or whatnot.

23:34 - So a lot of logistics

23:35 - through here a lot of

23:36 - tracking everything is

23:38 - numbered and assigned based

23:40 - on a part.

23:40 - Number two what we call a

23:42 - GSO a general sales order

23:43 - fleet truck.

23:45 - So we do have a good group

23:47 - of inventory control folks

23:48 - that track all of these

23:50 - parts that you see so they

23:52 - will end up on a truck

23:53 - somewhere throughout the

23:56 - process.

24:01 - So what we're going to see

24:02 - here is what we saw before

24:05 - was basically doing our

24:06 - cabs and getting our cabs

24:08 - set up.

24:08 - So what you're going to see

24:09 - here is the back end to the

24:11 - fire vehicle really doing

24:13 - the body.

24:14 - And that's our shop where

24:16 - you can see some again some

24:17 - parts being fab we have

24:20 - brakes we've got presses.

24:21 - We help a whole lot of

24:22 - machines here where you'll

24:24 - see large sheets small

24:26 - sheets being formed and

24:27 - bent into place and sheared

24:28 - and whatnot.

24:29 - For all those components

24:30 - that that go onto a fire

24:32 - truck again pretty

24:33 - primarily basing it on the

24:35 - body of the fire truck at

24:37 - this point after we just

24:38 - saw the cab go again.

24:55 - What you're seeing a lot of

24:56 - components being formed fab

25:00 - then you see what he's

25:01 - doing right now is doing

25:03 - holders for an air bottle

25:06 - shelf.

25:06 - We'll see those later on

25:07 - the finished product.

25:08 - But again just so many

25:09 - different moving parts and

25:11 - pieces of parts that need

25:12 - to be done by hand with

25:15 - this will be is this will

25:16 - actually go into a

25:17 - compartment and you'll see

25:18 - air bottles being mounted

25:20 - for Holder for air bottles

25:21 - within the offending units.

25:22 - Some farmers will be seeing

25:26 - some of our larger

25:28 - equipment some of our

25:29 - larger shears we take some

25:31 - pieces of material larger

25:32 - pieces that again have to

25:34 - be formed and get ready for

25:37 - production for our bodies

25:38 - or some other components

25:39 - that go on a truck such as

25:41 - some bread plate walkways

25:42 - any types of others those

25:44 - types of things.

25:44 - So a lot of finger material

25:46 - getting ready for use in

25:48 - this area just as we saw in

25:53 - our cab.

25:53 - Well we're starting to wall

25:55 - the back of fire truck is

25:57 - the body for the body gets

25:58 - put together here.

25:59 - Based on all those pieces

26:00 - that you saw being formed

26:02 - before and all the

26:03 - componentry so the body

26:05 - gets put into a jig gets

26:06 - set up.

26:08 - They measure it put

26:09 - everything together and

26:10 - they start welding

26:11 - compartments like the farm

26:13 - or whatever configuration

26:14 - is needed on the body.

26:16 - Again it's the same setup

26:17 - as you saw below where we

26:18 - put together in a cab.

26:20 - Well them together and

26:21 - we'll go through and see

26:22 - the next step as a sort of

26:40 - body weld process you'll

26:41 - see a side of a compartment

26:42 - a lower size department.

26:43 - So this has already been

26:44 - welded in another area.

26:46 - It hasn't brought over

26:48 - everything kind to be

26:49 - pieced together at this

26:50 - point.

26:51 - So we see what someone else

26:52 - as well that we can work

26:54 - our way down into one of

26:56 - the other areas where you

26:57 - can see we're actually

26:58 - starting to piece them

26:59 - together side to side

27:00 - getting them ready.

27:02 - What he's doing is just

27:03 - doing some final welding to

27:04 - put the body together.

27:07 - Take as it gets filled up

27:08 - from piece of piece from

27:10 - the ground up.

27:12 - We continue on over to the

27:13 - other side where after

27:15 - we've got the body put

27:16 - together we now start to

27:18 - see it taking place with

27:20 - all the sides and we got

27:21 - together we can see ladder

27:23 - boxes that are now being

27:24 - well put in.

27:26 - We have all this department

27:27 - patient that's done some of

27:30 - those air bottom

27:30 - compartments that we've

27:31 - talked about where he was

27:32 - just doing in the fab shop.

27:34 - We'll fit in there but it's

27:36 - coming together and as we

27:37 - actually go through with

27:39 - everything as far as

27:40 - welding we'll do the same

27:41 - process as we did before

27:43 - going through making sure

27:44 - that all welds are ground

27:45 - down.

27:46 - And we have nice smooth

27:47 - areas that we can primer

27:49 - and get ready to paint so

28:13 - again before we get to our

28:14 - next step which is a primer

28:15 - prior to paint how we've

28:17 - gone through we've browned

28:18 - down any type of wealth

28:19 - marks any type of deferring

28:21 - that needed to be done.

28:22 - So this body is a little

28:24 - bit more to go both fully

28:25 - ready to go into primer and

28:27 - then for primer to paint

28:35 - getting that nice smooth

28:36 - surface.

28:37 - Once they're done with this

28:38 - they'll go window climb one

28:49 - of the bodies that had just

28:49 - been painted again another

28:51 - fire truck red popular

28:52 - color.

28:53 - But you can see it's been

28:54 - painted.

28:55 - What he's doing right now

28:56 - is going over buffing it

28:57 - getting that nice block

28:59 - making sure there's no

28:59 - imperfections.

29:00 - You also take notice too

29:03 - that we have the interiors

29:04 - painted the interiors have

29:06 - a bunch of different

29:07 - options work we painted

29:08 - just like this outside or

29:10 - have a texture type finish

29:12 - or more protective type

29:13 - coating to the compartment

29:14 - here.

29:15 - So that's also been done.

29:16 - So again we go through here

29:18 - we make sure that we have a

29:19 - good finish that we'd like

29:21 - to see on it we forfeit.

29:23 - Make sure it's ready go

29:24 - next step after this.

29:26 - We'll take it down and

29:27 - we'll get ready to have it

29:28 - mounted where it meets up

29:29 - with the chassis.

29:31 - This is one of our laser

29:32 - cutters one of the state of

29:34 - the art piece of equipment

29:35 - that we have here.

29:37 - What happens is we'll run a

29:38 - computer program to punch

29:39 - out all those parts

29:40 - opponents that we've seen

29:42 - being put on the truck.

29:44 - So the program gets put in

29:46 - to run it and the machine

29:48 - basically we feed the piece

29:50 - of material in it.

29:51 - And it's doing what they

29:52 - call nesting.

29:52 - So you take a piece of

29:54 - material aluminum stainless

29:56 - steel and whatnot and it

29:58 - will actually calculate how

29:59 - many different cutouts that

30:01 - you can get on that piece.

30:03 - So there's very very

30:04 - minimal waste to it.

30:06 - Again just something to

30:07 - make it more efficient is

30:09 - also very accurate and just

30:13 - kind favor.

30:14 - What we do here and as you

30:21 - come over here you'll

30:23 - actually be able to see the

30:25 - the screen in the display.

30:27 - So this was programmed in

30:29 - so you'll see exactly what

30:31 - it's cutting in and how

30:33 - it's doing it sort of move

30:34 - along again taking

30:35 - advantage of using a full

30:36 - sheet to use as much

30:39 - material less waste lost so

30:46 - what we have was we have a

30:47 - completed body where

30:48 - everything's painted and

30:50 - ready to go.

30:51 - The rough edges that you

30:52 - see here are left that way

30:54 - for an adhesive for what we

30:56 - call Chevron material which

30:58 - isn't FDA compliant to

30:59 - stick to.

31:00 - So this body is ready to be

31:01 - mounted.

31:02 - We also have our cap which

31:03 - we again saw cab being

31:05 - built in our cab line.

31:06 - This is where they come

31:07 - together.

31:07 - This happens to be a ladder

31:09 - truck.

31:10 - So we do ladder trucks as

31:11 - well with our ladders being

31:12 - built in Roanoke Virginia.

31:14 - What you'll see coming

31:15 - through and over to the

31:16 - other side is they're

31:17 - actually getting ready to

31:19 - mount a body right now and

31:30 - as you'll see they'll hoist

31:31 - the section the body get it

31:33 - ready to be put in place.

31:35 - Once they have it put where

31:37 - they need it to be put

31:38 - where they have some

31:39 - predetermined mounts one

31:40 - knot they'll set it down

31:41 - there again in place and

31:42 - continue securing it

31:44 - fasting in according to all

31:53 - those materials that we saw

31:54 - working up above on a body

31:56 - and chassis are now coming

31:57 - together there's a water

32:13 - tank that we're getting

32:13 - ready to install we

32:14 - purchase our water tanks

32:16 - from an outside vendor.

32:17 - But water tanks range in

32:18 - size from anything from 250

32:20 - gallons up to three

32:21 - thousand gallons this

32:22 - particular one has foam and

32:25 - water.

32:26 - So they're actually getting

32:27 - ready to have it installed

32:29 - in one of the bodies that

32:30 - we just saw.

32:31 - That was done.

32:32 - So again a lot of trucks

32:35 - that we deal have water

32:36 - tagged water tank various

32:38 - sizes and we design

32:40 - everything the tank around

32:42 - the fire truck that we're

32:43 - building this is one of the

32:48 - bodies that just amounted

32:49 - to one of our coffee.

32:50 - So what we're doing now is

32:52 - securing the body but also

32:55 - finishing up putting any

32:57 - type of wiring and hoses

32:59 - running any type of lines

33:00 - that need to the tank that

33:01 - we just saw is made for

33:03 - this unit.

33:03 - So they're getting ready to

33:04 - have that tank put into

33:06 - this unit.

33:07 - So once the body and the

33:09 - cab have been put together

33:10 - you see that we don't have

33:12 - any plumbing on it which is

33:13 - in the middle what we'll

33:14 - see very shortly.

33:16 - But when this is completed

33:17 - in this building this is

33:18 - actually ready to be driven

33:20 - to the next assembly point

33:22 - which is the plumbing then

33:24 - where it'll be finished out

33:25 - and we'll finally start

33:26 - seeing the whole firetruck

33:35 - as we just saw.

33:36 - Now leave a truck with a

33:38 - water tank mounted into the

33:39 - pump mounted the cab and a

33:40 - body.

33:41 - And in this section our

33:42 - plumbing section we

33:43 - actually start to plumb the

33:46 - fire pump of the vehicle so

33:48 - the fire pump gets mounted

33:49 - and you can see all the

33:50 - different configurations of

33:52 - valves piping and whatnot.

33:55 - There's a lot of debt what

33:56 - they call discharges that

33:58 - go to a fire truck that

33:59 - allows you to squirt the

34:00 - water through the hoses

34:01 - things called intakes that

34:02 - let water come in to the

34:05 - truck as well.

34:06 - If we come over this side

34:07 - you'll see a truck that

34:07 - just came in where they're

34:09 - actually getting ready and

34:10 - get set up to put a lot of

34:11 - the valve pump palaces are

34:13 - made here as well so we

34:15 - have the frame that fits

34:17 - around the pump that

34:17 - carries the hoses things

34:19 - that call boss laser speed

34:20 - Lay's booster rails

34:21 - generators.

34:23 - Any of those types of

34:23 - things in the back you can

34:25 - see one of the water tanks

34:26 - that we saw before now

34:28 - that's mounted into a

34:29 - truck.

34:29 - Again the water tank will

34:30 - be plumbed to the pump

34:33 - where again we'll be ready

34:34 - for fire service.

34:38 - So we're in one of our

34:38 - final assembly or is now

34:40 - but we just saw some of the

34:41 - plumbing in the piping

34:42 - being done so you can kind

34:43 - of get a good look of what

34:45 - they've accomplished in

34:46 - there as far as running

34:47 - lines discharges and

34:48 - whatnot as we're still in

34:50 - this final assembly period.

34:52 - We still have wiring and

34:53 - all the final things that

34:54 - we do that goes on the fire

34:57 - truck again all customer

34:58 - specific.

35:00 - You can see the plumbing

35:03 - the piping the speed that

35:05 - we use where the hoses get

35:06 - deployed.

35:06 - This is what they call a

35:07 - top mount pump where the

35:09 - operator stands on top and

35:10 - works the control panels

35:13 - that the pump from the from

35:14 - the top over here we'll see

35:17 - a panel lay out so all of

35:19 - our panels are done

35:20 - in-house as well.

35:21 - So all these are all the

35:22 - gauges all the gauges are

35:23 - set up for the pump for the

35:24 - pressures and whatnot to

35:27 - let the pump operate know

35:28 - different pressures and how

35:29 - the pumps operating.

35:30 - But again all this gets put

35:32 - on the units in the final

35:34 - production area this is

35:40 - just some of the final

35:40 - things that are getting put

35:41 - on this unit to be

35:43 - completed.

35:44 - One of the things we're

35:45 - looking at is an air bottle

35:46 - store.

35:46 - We did see them fabricating

35:49 - and bending those pieces of

35:51 - material to get installed

35:52 - in their truck like this

35:53 - again compartments are

35:55 - painted with a specific

35:56 - interior cover color and

35:58 - coating.

35:59 - We're putting some shelving

36:00 - material in there and just

36:02 - finalizing the lights step

36:06 - final trim packages with

36:07 - tread plate and whatnot as

36:10 - we come around the back.

36:12 - You can also see where

36:13 - they'll be assembling the

36:14 - hose bed and access to that

36:17 - hose bed area where the

36:18 - hose gets stored.

36:20 - All types of lights and

36:21 - again just customer

36:23 - specific as far as what

36:25 - goes on each one of our

36:27 - trucks one of the items

36:36 - that we saw in our cab line

36:37 - being built was really

36:38 - reference to Tiller cab.

36:40 - This is a tiller cabin

36:41 - production Tiller cab

36:43 - again.

36:43 - The operator is in the back

36:46 - and steers the back of the

36:47 - ladder truck Tiller meaning

36:49 - tractor drawn area aerial

36:51 - or TDA.

36:52 - We do have various

36:54 - complement of ladders or

36:55 - ladders are built on our

36:56 - other facility in Roanoke

36:57 - Virginia and sent up here.

36:59 - So here you see a lot of

37:00 - this being mounted.

37:01 - They are putting the final

37:02 - touches onto this unit.

37:03 - You can see where Mike's

37:04 - doing some striping on the

37:06 - doors.

37:07 - Again customer specific and

37:10 - per NAFTA National Fire

37:12 - Protection Administration.

37:14 - As far as what we're

37:15 - supposed to do to keep the

37:16 - firefighters safe and what

37:18 - we need to do with the

37:18 - vehicle.

37:19 - So final touches on a very

37:20 - large piece of apparatus

37:22 - known as a TDA there's

37:30 - another vehicle that we're

37:31 - getting ready to final and

37:32 - deliver to a customer.

37:34 - But as you'll see we have

37:35 - all the warning devices

37:37 - mounted all types of seen

37:38 - lights.

37:39 - We do have some lettering

37:40 - applied to it.

37:42 - We're going through the

37:42 - final testing phases right

37:44 - now.

37:46 - We do have the pump panels

37:48 - as you'll see down this

37:49 - way.

37:50 - We have our panels on the

37:51 - control panel we saw top

37:53 - mounted pump panel before.

37:55 - This is a side mounted

37:56 - panel.

37:56 - So this is where the pump

37:57 - operator will go to operate

38:00 - the pump in the water

38:00 - system of the truck moving

38:03 - down through.

38:04 - Again you'll see a lot of

38:05 - different shelving

38:07 - configuration withdraws and

38:09 - whatnot.

38:10 - Again all custom done some

38:13 - of the trays roll out trays

38:18 - one of the things that we

38:19 - saw being manufactured and

38:21 - done up at our fab shop is

38:22 - a light box holder cord

38:24 - rails.

38:25 - So there's just a lot of

38:26 - things that get put on a

38:27 - vehicle just in what you

38:29 - see the shell the firetruck

38:35 - if you remember as talking

38:36 - we saw a body was being

38:37 - ready to be mounted with

38:38 - that white chalky material

38:40 - in the back.

38:40 - We said we left it roughed

38:41 - up for an application what

38:43 - we call Chevron. This is

38:45 - Chevron.

38:45 - So it's a reflective

38:46 - material that is required

38:48 - to be on the back of

38:49 - emergency vehicles so you

38:50 - can see oncoming passengers

38:53 - can see the vehicle.

38:55 - So we have a lot of lights

38:56 - and everything on a truck

38:57 - but this helps visibility

38:59 - as well.

38:59 - So again a lot of stuff

39:01 - going on as far storage

39:03 - compartments for ladders

39:04 - suction discharges step

39:08 - just an overall full

39:12 - complement apparatus.

39:19 - This unit has just been

39:20 - completed and ready to go

39:21 - out for a final detailing

39:23 - and lettering.

39:24 - I just want to point out

39:25 - that this is a commercial

39:26 - chassis vehicle.

39:27 - So we do a full complement

39:29 - of commercial chassis

39:29 - vehicles that are put on a

39:32 - cab that has not been made

39:35 - by us.

39:35 - So again not the majority

39:38 - of our things that are

39:38 - built here are custom cabs

39:41 - that you've seen being

39:41 - built.

39:42 - But we also do those where

39:43 - we order the chassis and

39:45 - the back end gets put

39:46 - together and built just

39:47 - like we saw before.

39:48 - So it's a custom back in on

39:51 - a commercial chassis.

39:55 - We're not forecasting going

39:56 - right now here but what we

39:59 - do is we set up the bar

40:01 - truck that we put on a full

40:03 - load of electrical so we

40:04 - turn all the lights on and

40:06 - make sure that all the

40:07 - electrical property

40:09 - properly.

40:10 - We also run for a contest

40:12 - real see water being

40:13 - drafted out of an

40:15 - underground water storage

40:17 - area.

40:18 - I've just been in this

40:19 - argues that our love for

40:25 - the pump is tested at

40:26 - different price again based

40:28 - on NSA reform.

40:31 - And it's also being third

40:32 - party affected by this Dr.

40:35 - verify that all the past

40:37 - have been completed and

40:38 - that the U.S. One of the

40:50 - other things that you'll

40:51 - notice if you look above it

40:52 - you'll see the yellow line

40:54 - yellow piping.

40:56 - That is a water test all of

40:59 - our vehicles.

41:00 - We actually simulate a

41:01 - brain or water event to

41:03 - make sure that we have no

41:04 - leaks.

41:05 - The window for any air

41:06 - conditioning or anything

41:07 - like that.

41:08 - So the unit will go through

41:09 - that and all the water from

41:12 - the side just to verify

41:14 - that we don't have it is

41:15 - for the so we're on our

41:19 - customer service building.

41:20 - We also have a building

41:21 - where we do service work

41:23 - for local customers or any

41:25 - customers anybody that has

41:27 - an issue.

41:28 - We can bring it back here

41:28 - service it do any type of

41:30 - warranty work.

41:31 - We have all the state of

41:32 - the art service equipment

41:33 - to do such and diagnostics

41:35 - and technicians.

41:37 - So again just another

41:38 - element of being able to

41:40 - service our customers so

41:46 - we're in our graphics

41:47 - facility right now.

41:48 - We have machines that do

41:50 - various graphics various

41:53 - materials.

41:55 - We can do gold leaf.

41:56 - We can do scotch light

41:58 - again whenever that

41:58 - customer preference is.

42:00 - You can see over here

42:01 - another machine that we've

42:01 - got.

42:02 - We're actually doing some

42:03 - custom logos for the

42:06 - foreman and in the

42:08 - background here you can see

42:09 - a unit that we've just got

42:11 - done lettering and striping

42:13 - for a customer.

42:15 - So this is the 22 carat

42:16 - gold leaf along with

42:19 - reflects reflect the

42:21 - material scotch light.

42:23 - So just a nice complement

42:24 - of of a fire department

42:26 - showing pride for their

42:27 - fire department in their

42:28 - community.

42:29 - Again we do all that

42:30 - lettering on striping

42:31 - in-house here with our

42:32 - graphics department we're

42:40 - still on with our graphic

42:41 - arts department.

42:42 - So as you can see our

42:43 - graphic artist can generate

42:45 - any type of logo custom to

42:48 - a fire department specific

42:49 - logo or as simple as just

42:52 - plain letters.

42:53 - Right now she's running a

42:54 - KME logo.

42:55 - So you see it running

42:56 - through on the material and

42:59 - come out we'll get it ready

43:00 - for application where it

43:01 - needs to go so here we are

43:05 - with one of our final

43:06 - products.

43:06 - As you can see everything's

43:07 - operating nice and shiny

43:10 - and lights working, ready

43:11 - to go for customers to come

43:13 - and inspect and take it

43:13 - home and serve the

43:14 - community that we built it

43:15 - for just like to take this

43:17 - opportunity.

43:17 - Thank you for joining us on

43:18 - our tour on behalf of all

43:20 - of us at KME Fire.

43:23 - Thanks for coming and

43:24 - watching and hope to...

43:24 - See you sometime soon.
