00:00 -
00:01 - Well we were on a search and
00:02 - destroy mission against the
00:05 - North Vietnamese army to go into
00:08 - the DMZ that demilitarized zone
00:11 - and clear out the North
00:13 - Vietnamese Army and our unit was
00:16 - a lead unit.
00:18 - As a matter of fact the squad
00:20 - that I was in was the lead squad
00:22 - of the platoon and the company
00:26 - and the battalion that we were
00:27 - part of.
00:28 - I mean it was a huge operation.
00:30 - In May the latter part of May of
00:33 - 1967.
00:35 - And just so happened one day we
00:39 - were a sniper kept pinning down
00:42 - our unit our platoon.
00:45 - And the point person in our
00:47 - squad saw this sniper and went
00:52 - after the sniper.
00:54 - Obviously a squad of 12 Marines
00:58 - and ultimately the platoon
01:01 - followed our marine our point
01:05 - person and unfortunately we were
01:09 - led into an ambush.
01:12 - And as a result of that ambush
01:15 - seven of the 12 Marines in my
01:16 - squad died.
01:17 - I was wounded a couple other
01:20 - people were seriously wounded.
