(2017) Bob Ruble, from Millersville, was a master chief in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War
00:00 -
00:01 - January 31st, 1968 I was sitting
00:05 - on the way city ramp when the
00:08 - Viet Cong started the throwing
00:09 - b-40 rockets in on the ramp.
00:13 - And that was the start of the
00:14 - Tet Offensive.
00:17 - Tet was like the Battle of the
00:20 - Bulge
00:20 - If you're familiar with that in
00:22 - World War II, the Tet Offensive
00:25 - of '68 was like that for us.
00:29 - They started thowing the b-40s.
00:31 - I had to get the boat off the
00:33 - beach and out in the small
00:35 - harbor.
00:37 - And we sat there all night long
00:39 - waiting to get underway in the
00:41 - morning to transit back down the
00:43 - river and back out to sea side.
00:46 - During that period of time was
00:48 - about six hours of complete
00:50 - darkness except for the rockets
00:52 - being thrown in on the ramp and
00:55 - we could see them really doing
00:57 - some devastation in the city
01:01 - away.
01:03 - But there wasn't anything we
01:04 - could do we had to get out of
01:06 - there first thing in the
01:07 - morning.
