Mount Joy Borough, Exploring Pennsylvania Boroughs

(2018) Mount Joy Borough, Exploring Pennsylvania Boroughs, a program produced by the PA State Association of Boroughs.

Caption Text Below:

00:07 - Welcome to this edition of

00:08 - Exploring Pennsylvania Boroughs.

00:09 - I'm Chris Cap, executive

00:11 - director of the Pennsylvania

00:11 - State Association of Boroughs.

00:14 - Across the state, each borough

00:15 - has its own unique story to

00:16 - tell.

00:16 - Each month we'll visit borough

00:17 - communities across the state to

00:19 - highlight cultural and tourist

00:20 - destinations.

00:21 - Innovative programs and economic

00:23 - development projects taking

00:24 - place.

00:25 - Today, we explore Mount Joy

00:27 - borough in Lancaster County.

00:28 - The first businesses of Mount

00:29 - Joy consisted of taverns,

00:31 - blacksmith shops, and wagon

00:32 - makers.

00:33 - While the borough has changed

00:34 - over the years, much of the

00:36 - architecture design before 1939

00:38 - has survived and therefore

00:39 - offering historic charm.

00:41 - Today Mount Joy aims to mix its

00:43 - history with revitalization, is

00:44 - home to historic Central Hotel,

00:46 - which has been a continuous

00:47 - operation since 1889, and

00:49 - initially Swiss chocolate

00:50 - company. It's also home to

00:52 - Fourth Fridays and Taste of

00:53 - Mount Joy Cruising Cuisine.

00:55 - We hope you enjoy this tour of

00:56 - one of Pennsylvania's many great

00:58 - borough communities.

01:00 - Hello. I'm Tim Bradley, mayor of

01:01 - Mount Joy borough.

01:02 - And I'd like to welcome you to

01:04 - Mount Joy. Mount Joy is a small

01:05 - community located in northwest

01:07 - Lancaster County with a

01:08 - population of 70,500.

01:11 - We have many restaurants and

01:13 - small businesses. A few

01:15 - manufacturing facilities as

01:16 - well.

01:17 - So Mount Joy has a rich history.

01:19 - One that dates back to the time

01:21 - of the Indians where it used to

01:23 - be a crossroads of two major

01:26 - Indian paths as goods were

01:28 - traded back and forth across

01:30 - this area.

01:31 - It continues to have much of

01:33 - that history as part of its

01:34 - current structure in that we

01:36 - have a major train line that

01:37 - runs from Harrisburg all the way

01:39 - down to Philadelphia and several

01:41 - major highways in the area.

01:43 - This gives us great access to

01:45 - major metropolitan areas as well

01:47 - as some of the rich tourist

01:51 - areas of Lancaster County.

01:53 - So one of the questions that

01:54 - many visitors often have is why

01:56 - is your logo a ship?

01:57 - Well it dates back to the late

01:58 - 1600s in Northern Ireland when

02:01 - the Catholic king, King James

02:02 - the Second, laid siege to the

02:03 - city of Derry. The city of Derry

02:05 - had a Protestant population and

02:07 - that Protestant population was

02:09 - in dire distress.

02:10 - And what happened was the good

02:11 - ship Mount Joy along with two

02:13 - other ships broke the blockade

02:14 - and when it broke the blockade,

02:16 - it actually helped with the

02:17 - Protestant victory in Northern

02:18 - Ireland some forty years later.

02:20 - Many Scots Irish moved to the

02:21 - northwest corner of Lancaster

02:23 - and in an area called Donegal

02:25 - and when they settled in this

02:26 - area, they named several things

02:28 - after that region. Mount Joy

02:30 - being one of them.

02:31 - So one of the things that we

02:32 - often talk about is we don't

02:33 - often abbreviate Mount Joy as

02:34 - Mt. Joy because it's not a

02:36 - mountain, but it was all one

02:37 - word.

02:37 - The good ship Mountjoy.

02:39 - Many folks travel to Lancaster

02:40 - County in order to see the

02:42 - Anabaptist populations that

02:43 - exist within the eastern part of

02:45 - the county.

02:45 - But the northwest part of the

02:46 - county has a diverse background

02:48 - in history as well.

02:49 - Not only do we have the Nook,

02:51 - which is the largest indoor

02:52 - sports facility in the United

02:54 - States, it also has the U.S.

02:55 - field hockey team. And of course

02:57 - we also have some little shops

02:59 - where you can drop in and find a

03:01 - little trinket to take home

03:02 - after you've enjoyed a restful

03:04 - weekend or a week long vacation

03:06 - away.

03:07 - So as a lifelong resident of

03:08 - this community.

03:09 - I'm excited to have you join us

03:11 - for a tour of Mount Joy borough.

03:13 - Hello.

03:14 - My name is Kerry Meyers.

03:15 - I'm the coordinator of the Mount

03:17 - Joy Chamber of Commerce and the

03:18 - local visitors center.

03:20 - And welcome to my office. For

03:22 - the visitors center here for

03:24 - anyone locally who comes into

03:26 - town to visit.

03:27 - So they come in here. I help

03:28 - them plan their days and their

03:30 - visits in Mount Joy and also for

03:33 - their surrounding areas.

03:34 - We are central to Lancaster,

03:36 - York, Harrisburg, and Hershey

03:39 - and I also have everything they

03:41 - need to know for those towns as

03:43 - well.

03:43 - So we're a one stop shop.

03:45 - They don't need to go looking

03:46 - for other visitors centers.

03:48 - In our office we also sell Mount

03:50 - Joy money gift certificates.

03:52 - We have sold more than 35,000

03:55 - dollars since then, which keeps

03:57 - dollars local. People come in

03:59 - and buy the gift certificates.

04:00 - They're given a brochure, which

04:02 - lists all the chamber members

04:04 - that participate. For our

04:06 - members of the Mount Joy Chamber

04:07 - of Commerce, we offer many

04:09 - benefits.

04:10 - We hold monthly informative

04:12 - luncheons the second Wednesday

04:14 - of every month.

04:15 - We hold monthly chamber mixers.

04:18 - They're both really good

04:20 - networking opportunities for our

04:22 - members.

04:23 - We also have community events

04:25 - that the chamber sponsors.

04:27 - We have music in the park, which

04:29 - is held the last Sunday in July

04:32 - and the first three Sundays in

04:33 - August.

04:34 - We have a different band each

04:35 - Sunday and the last Sunday we

04:37 - also provide an ice cream

04:39 - social.

04:41 - Lots of fun.

04:42 - A lot of people turn out for it.

04:44 - We give away a whole lot of

04:46 - really good ice cream and

04:47 - snacks.

04:48 - Two years ago we started visits

04:50 - with Santa right down the street

04:52 - at the local bakery.

04:54 - We have treats for everyone. We

04:56 - have coloring pages.

04:58 - It's just a really relaxed

04:59 - atmosphere and the parents told

05:01 - me they love it.

05:02 - There's no need to go to the

05:04 - local big mall, stand in line.

05:06 - You just come in here.

05:08 - Have a really relaxing time.

05:10 - I'm proud to say that we have

05:11 - had every single child sit on

05:13 - Santa's lap before they leave

05:15 - the building.

05:15 - We also have Mount Joy Minnie

05:17 - for Groundhog Day.

05:18 - She's becoming really famous

05:20 - locally.

05:21 - She gives her predictions

05:22 - groundhog morning and we have

05:25 - treats there for everyone.

05:27 - They come in their crazy hats

05:29 - because we have a crazy contest

05:31 - with prizes.

05:32 - Being a Chamber of Commerce we

05:33 - are dues-based.

05:35 - That does not cover all the

05:37 - expenses that we incur

05:39 - throughout the year.

05:40 - So we also hold an annual

05:42 - Chamber banquet and auction.

05:44 - It's a really fun time for our

05:45 - members to come together and the

05:47 - community is also invited to

05:49 - attend that and we also hold an

05:51 - annual chicken barbecue, which

05:53 - has become extremely well-known

05:55 - and people call months ahead of

05:57 - time wondering when they can

05:58 - purchase tickets for both those

06:01 - events along with our upgraded

06:03 - members.

06:04 - And they pay additionally on top

06:06 - of our dues to be an upgraded

06:08 - member, cover or expenses for

06:10 - the year.

06:11 - So we're very active chamber.

06:15 - Everyone enjoys being involved

06:18 - with the chamber and of course

06:19 - how much they're involved is up

06:20 - to them personally.

06:22 - Hi, my name is Kim Brewer.

06:24 - I'm the executive director of

06:25 - Main Street Mount Joy.

06:27 - We fill our downtown with

06:29 - businesses that are diverse,

06:31 - community friendly.

06:32 - We do community events.

06:34 - We can boast that we have a

06:36 - downtown full of nine diverse

06:38 - restaurants.

06:39 - So if you're hungry this is the

06:41 - place to come.

06:42 - We have cute little boutique

06:43 - shopping.

06:44 - We are the small town with a big

06:47 - charm.

06:47 - We're not necessarily the place

06:49 - that you come when when you need

06:50 - something. We're the place that

06:51 - you want to come when you're

06:52 - looking for something special.

06:54 - Harvey's barbecue is top rated

06:56 - number one barbecue in the

06:58 - state.

06:58 - We have our little Mexican

07:00 - restaurant. Again, one of the

07:01 - best in PA.

07:03 - People come here for that. Our

07:05 - coffee shop is one of our

07:07 - businesses that have been here

07:08 - the longest. Mainstream Mount

07:10 - Joy hosts 16 events per year.

07:13 - All unique in nature.

07:15 - 12 of them are our fourth

07:16 - Fridays, which are highlighted

07:17 - fourth Fridays.

07:18 - It's always in October with a

07:19 - safe trick or treat night for

07:20 - the kids.

07:21 - The local churches come together

07:23 - and we feed our community for

07:24 - free. It's a great fun night to

07:25 - come out.

07:27 - We also host Winterfest, which

07:28 - is about 3,000 people in our

07:30 - local community that come

07:31 - downtown to help light our big

07:34 - huge Christmas tree we're so

07:36 - lucky to have. It's been growing

07:38 - for many years and will stay

07:40 - here and be a part of our

07:41 - celebration for many years.

07:44 - This is a place you want to come

07:45 - if you have an antique car or a

07:47 - custom car to show off. Our car

07:49 - show has about 250 cars per

07:51 - year.

07:52 - And it also highlights our

07:53 - restaurants as we call it the

07:56 - taste of Main Street Mount Joy.

07:58 - We have all our local

07:59 - restaurants come out with a

08:01 - special or something that makes

08:03 - them unique and they come and

08:05 - they sell it for in the

08:05 - downtown.

08:06 - Every year it grows.

08:08 - We have cars on corners, cars on

08:10 - main street, cars everywhere,

08:11 - and it's a lot of fun.

08:13 - Our movies in the park hosts all

08:16 - kinds of unique movies for

08:17 - everyone.

08:17 - We'll do anything from a musical

08:19 - where we have families up

08:20 - dancing and laughing and having

08:21 - fun.

08:22 - To an animated movie for the

08:23 - kids, which we all as adults

08:25 - actually love too. It's probably

08:28 - one of my favorite things that

08:30 - we do. It's nothing to see a

08:31 - movie start and have kids

08:32 - sleeping on blankets in the end

08:34 - with our family. It's just a fun

08:36 - fun thing to do to bring your

08:37 - family out to.

08:38 - We also have chocolate walk.

08:40 - We have about 500 people attend

08:41 - that every year.

08:42 - We work again with our

08:44 - businesses where you go in and

08:46 - you collect a piece of chocolate

08:47 - in each establishment that you

08:48 - come in.

08:48 - They're all premium chocolates

08:50 - made by Evans Chocolate, which

08:52 - is a small business as well.

08:54 - Main Street Mount Joy is unique

08:56 - in the way that not only do we

08:57 - do our activities, but we

08:59 - keep...

09:00 - We only buy and purchase for our

09:02 - events from small local vendors

09:04 - and small businesses.

09:06 - That's really what we stand for.

09:07 - That's what we do and that's

09:08 - what we're trying to build here.

09:10 - 93 East Main is one of our

09:12 - projects and it's a place you're

09:13 - going to want to visit come

09:14 - summertime. It's going to be a

09:16 - large microbrewery with some

09:19 - food.

09:19 - We're working on what that menu

09:21 - will look like now.

09:22 - We do anything from working with

09:24 - the original owner to trying to

09:27 - stabilize a plan that it could

09:29 - be purchased and the beer can

09:30 - actually be produced here.

09:31 - So this project here is going to

09:33 - bring a lot of people to Mount

09:35 - Joy and we're excited about

09:36 - that.

09:36 - On behalf of Main Street Mount

09:37 - Joy and Mount Joy borough, I

09:39 - would like to welcome you to

09:40 - Mount Joy. I would like you to

09:41 - come downtown, look and see what

09:43 - we have here.

09:44 - Come visit our shops because

09:45 - it's extremely important.

09:47 - We need you to maintain our plan

09:49 - here.

09:49 - You're a huge part of that.

09:51 - I'm Sam Allen and welcome to

09:53 - Bube's Brewery.

09:54 - This is a 19th century brewery

09:57 - here in Mount Joy.

09:58 - We're blessed in this little

09:59 - town with lots of historic homes

10:02 - and historic buildings and a

10:04 - really special one is this old

10:06 - brewery from the 1800's.

10:07 - What makes it really unique is

10:10 - the fact that in the 1800's,

10:12 - there were many many many little

10:13 - breweries.

10:14 - But now the big breweries of the

10:17 - 20th century kind of wiped out

10:18 - all the little ones 100 years

10:20 - ago.

10:20 - And there are none left that

10:22 - still look like they did back in

10:24 - the 1870s, 1880s except for this

10:26 - one.

10:27 - This is a brewery from the

10:28 - 1870s, 1880s that's still in its

10:30 - original condition, still has

10:32 - its original equipment, and

10:34 - we're a restaurant and a brewery

10:36 - and a hotel.

10:37 - We're very proud of the fact

10:38 - that we're still doing what they

10:40 - did here in the 1880s.

10:42 - They served food to the public.

10:44 - They made beer, delivered

10:46 - locally, and they had rooms for

10:48 - rent in the old hotel that's

10:49 - here and we're still doing all

10:50 - of those things.

10:51 - Now the name Bube's is named

10:53 - after Mr. Bube.

10:54 - Alois Buba is how you'd say that

10:56 - with a German accent.

10:58 - The name morphed into Bube with

11:00 - an American accent and that's

11:01 - how the family says it. So

11:03 - B-U-B-E is Bube. And they kept

11:06 - the original brewing equipment

11:07 - here all the way through the

11:08 - 20th century.

11:10 - So we have some of the large

11:11 - wooden tanks that they actually

11:13 - fermented the beer in and aged

11:14 - the beer in. The cellars is one

11:16 - of the most unique parts of the

11:17 - place.

11:19 - In the 1800's, they did not have

11:20 - refrigeration so they used

11:23 - underground cellaring to keep

11:25 - their beer cool.

11:26 - Well now we have a place we call

11:27 - the catacombs, which is their

11:30 - original cellars.

11:31 - We have a restaurant there where

11:32 - you can come dine and it's

11:34 - underground. You get a little

11:35 - tour on your way to your dinner

11:36 - table.

11:37 - And we're very happy to give

11:38 - tours.

11:39 - Anybody that comes to our

11:40 - facility and just wants to see

11:41 - it every evening we let you take

11:44 - a little walk through the place

11:45 - and we have a variety of things

11:46 - here.

11:47 - What we do in addition to just

11:48 - serving food now. We have the

11:51 - catacombs restaurant and the old

11:52 - bottling works. We have the

11:53 - bottling works restaurant, but

11:55 - we also do murder mystery

11:56 - dinners in the old hotel.

11:58 - We do themed dinners called

12:00 - feasts down in the catacombs. We

12:02 - serve dinner in the catacombs.

12:04 - Every day of the week.

12:05 - We also do our bottling works

12:06 - every day of the week.

12:07 - We have an outdoor beer garden,

12:09 - which is where the brew used to

12:11 - have their wagon yard and they'd

12:12 - load and unload the beer barrels

12:13 - from the wagons.

12:14 - We use that now as an outdoor

12:16 - dining area and how we have

12:19 - things like an escape room here

12:20 - and part of the old place.

12:21 - It's a wonderful building to use

12:23 - for a variety of things. It's

12:25 - extensive.

12:26 - There's 12 different buildings

12:27 - make up this brewery complex and

12:30 - one of the unique things here is

12:32 - the fact that there's a hotel

12:34 - here from the 1800's and that

12:36 - was very typical back then.

12:38 - The brewery business grew out of

12:41 - the hotel business way back when

12:42 - the innkeeper used to make the

12:43 - beer for the innkeeping guests.

12:45 - And here in the late 1800's, Mr.

12:48 - Bube and his family ran a hotel

12:50 - here.

12:50 - They actually lived in the

12:51 - hotel.

12:52 - It was their home as well as a

12:53 - public hotel.

12:55 - The old original hotel here has

12:57 - its original bar, which is a

12:59 - place where the public would

13:01 - gather in the old days.

13:02 - And they never changed the bar

13:04 - either. It looks like it did in

13:06 - 1880. It even has the original

13:07 - cash register from 1880 still

13:10 - sitting there.

13:11 - We invite people to come see our

13:12 - unique building because it's one

13:14 - of Mount Joy's landmarks and we

13:16 - really want the public to enjoy

13:18 - this place. We're open every day

13:19 - of the week. You can come in

13:20 - here anywhere from lunchtime all

13:23 - the way till late at night and

13:25 - check it out.

13:26 - Each different time of the day

13:27 - is very different.

13:28 - Might be quiet at lunch for a

13:30 - little lunch or in the evening

13:31 - there's a live band playing and

13:32 - the old bottling works and that

13:34 - can be a lot of fun and that

13:36 - makes it a very unique

13:37 - destination.

13:37 - And while we're seeing if you

13:39 - like historic buildings or if

13:40 - you like beer or if you like

13:41 - good food or if you want a

13:43 - really unique place to stay or

13:45 - if you want to come to a themed

13:46 - dinner or if you want to eat

13:47 - outside or if you want to do an

13:49 - escape room, please come visit

13:51 - us.

13:51 - We'd love to have you come

13:52 - visit.

13:53 - Hi. I'm Nancy, owner and

13:54 - innkeeper of Old Square Inn in

13:56 - Mount Joy.

13:57 - And this home has been an inn

13:59 - for over 27 years and I've been

14:01 - lucky enough to be able to take

14:03 - care of it for three and in the

14:05 - three years that I've been the

14:06 - innkeeper, I'm happy to say that

14:08 - we have become an award winning

14:11 - bed and breakfast.

14:12 - In 2017, we were awarded the

14:15 - American Small Business

14:16 - championship in Pennsylvania by

14:18 - score.

14:19 - We have also had the TripAdvisor

14:21 - Award of Excellence for three

14:23 - years in a row for outstanding

14:26 - customer service and we've been

14:28 - nominated as the happiest bed

14:30 - and breakfast by Happy magazine

14:33 - Satisfied Customers.

14:34 - Do you think I like my job?

14:36 - I love my job as an innkeeper.

14:39 - I've had the privilege of

14:40 - welcoming people from as far

14:42 - away as the Netherlands and as

14:44 - close as two blocks down the

14:46 - street.

14:46 - Well whether you're on a

14:47 - vacation or a staycation, I know

14:50 - that you're going to love having

14:52 - breakfast outside on the porch

14:54 - or sitting by the pool and

14:55 - soaking up some rays.

14:57 - And in the cold weather, you can

14:58 - sit by your own fireplace with a

15:00 - nice hot drink.

15:02 - Old Square is the perfect place

15:04 - for a romantic getaway, a

15:06 - girlfriends weekend, or just

15:09 - getting out and relaxing.

15:11 - I would love to have you come on

15:12 - out and stop in and see us.

15:14 - You can visit our web site at

15:16 - oldsquareinn.com.

15:18 - And then come and see what we

15:19 - have to offer here.

15:22 - My name is Sam Sulkosky. I'm the

15:23 - borough manager of Mount Joy,

15:25 - Pennsylvania where we are today.

15:27 - I want to explain to you is the

15:30 - Mount Joy train station project.

15:32 - It's a PennDOT project. General

15:34 - contractor is Ganon Fleming.

15:37 - Currently, there's two phases.

15:38 - Phase one is what we're looking

15:40 - at now. It was completed back in

15:43 - 2011 and what it included was

15:46 - putting in a new roadway, new

15:48 - sidewalks, landscaping,

15:50 - decorative lighting. And Phase

15:52 - 2, which started construction

15:54 - March 2017 and it's supposed to

15:57 - be completed by February of

15:59 - 2020.

16:00 - It's actually a 25 million

16:01 - dollar project, which Mount Joy

16:03 - is very pleased about. The

16:04 - Amtrak, which is using this

16:06 - line.

16:06 - This is one of their stations.

16:08 - It's the Keystone Corridor.

16:09 - And this is actually the eastern

16:10 - section. The Keystone Corridor

16:12 - is actually a train line that

16:14 - goes from Pittsburgh to

16:15 - Philadelphia and there's

16:16 - additional lines going from

16:18 - Philadelphia to New York City.

16:20 - The east corridor is actually

16:22 - the piece that goes from

16:23 - Harrisburg to Philadelphia.

16:25 - There's approximately 70,000

16:27 - riders a year that use this

16:29 - train station.

16:31 - It's grown quite considerably,

16:33 - probably about 20 percent over

16:34 - the last five or six years.

16:36 - Some of the key points on why

16:37 - they're doing this station is it

16:39 - had to be ADA accessible to

16:42 - people, which it's currently

16:43 - not, but will be when this is

16:46 - finished.

16:48 - PennDOT planning is also

16:49 - building two tires. One's a

16:50 - north tower. One is a south

16:52 - tower.

16:53 - This is going to be connecting

16:54 - people with a new walkway from

16:58 - street level down 20 ft below to

17:00 - the train tracks, which will

17:02 - connect to the two platforms

17:03 - about five hundred feet long,

17:05 - which we covered. Mount Joy

17:07 - borough strongly believes that

17:10 - intermodal transportation is

17:11 - very important. The train

17:13 - stations can be very vital to

17:14 - our economic future.

17:16 - One key thing for the residents

17:18 - of Mount Joy is I know quite a

17:20 - few people that use this on a

17:23 - daily basis to commute to work

17:24 - to Harrisburg, which is probably

17:26 - less than an hours commute by

17:29 - train.

17:30 - You don't have to drive and park

17:32 - and all that and it's still

17:33 - functional so you can visit

17:34 - here.

17:35 - And you don't have to wait till

17:36 - 2020.

17:37 - I invite you to come visit or

17:40 - wonderful community of Mount

17:41 - Joy. To check out information

17:43 - about the boroughs.

17:44 - You can check out our website at

17:45 - mountjoyborough.com.

17:48 - Hi. I'm Dennis Nissley, the

17:49 - public works director at Mount

17:51 - Joy borough.

17:52 - Here at Mount Joy borough we

17:53 - have approximately 70 acres of

17:55 - park property that provide a

17:57 - wide variety of opportunities

17:59 - for our residents and visitors

18:01 - to the borough.

18:02 - All of our neighborhoods

18:03 - throughout the borough have a

18:04 - park nearby for everyone to

18:05 - enjoy. Some of our parks have

18:08 - some historical significance.

18:10 - For instance, two of our parks

18:11 - are once the site of former

18:13 - schools in the borough. Our

18:16 - Memorial Park was the site of a

18:17 - school from 1879 until the mid

18:20 - 1950s.

18:22 - At the time when the school was

18:24 - removed from the park, the park

18:25 - was developed and dedicated as a

18:28 - park of remembrance for veterans

18:30 - of all wars.

18:31 - In recent years we built a

18:33 - gazebo at the park, which is

18:35 - used for special functions such

18:36 - as music in the park on summer

18:38 - evenings.

18:39 - Our largest park is Little

18:41 - Chickies Park.

18:42 - A gentleman named Clarence

18:43 - Schaake gave this park to the

18:46 - Mount Joy school board in 1947.

18:49 - Borough Park is the site of our

18:51 - Kids Joy Land, which was a

18:53 - community build project that was

18:55 - constructed in 2015.

18:58 - This was organized by the Rotary

18:59 - Club and the borough and was

19:01 - built in one week entirely by

19:03 - volunteers.

19:04 - Also here at Borough is our

19:06 - well-known Kunkel Field, which

19:10 - has been a great place for kids

19:11 - to come out and play ball and be

19:12 - involved in the sports and local

19:15 - youth organizations for many

19:16 - years.

19:17 - The most recent addition to our

19:18 - park system is the Old Standby

19:20 - Park.

19:21 - This is located along West Main

19:23 - Street and it's a great place to

19:25 - just sit and relax and watch the

19:26 - world go by.

19:28 - We currently are working on

19:29 - plans to connect all of our

19:30 - parks with pedestrian and

19:32 - bicycle pathways.

19:34 - As part of this project we also

19:36 - installed some pedestrian

19:37 - crossings so it's safer to

19:39 - access Borough Park, which is

19:41 - just one block away. So I hope

19:43 - you've enjoyed this short tour

19:44 - of our parks and we look forward

19:47 - to seeing you come out here and

19:48 - join us and enjoy our space

19:50 - sometime soon.

19:51 - Welcome to Mount Joy.

20:30 - and fun for every single day

20:31 - they have activities.

20:33 - The next stop we're going on is

20:35 - into the parks. The parks are

20:37 - one of our best treasures we

20:39 - have in town.

20:39 - There is a park with every

20:41 - community area in town.

20:43 - The last stop in the parks then

20:45 - would be the Joy Land.

20:47 - This was a playground built by

20:49 - the town for the town.

20:51 - It is for all abilities of

20:53 - children available. Any day you

20:56 - arrive from spring to fall.

20:57 - There are many, many kids there

21:00 - and having a great time.

21:01 - We are very, very proud of Joy

21:02 - Land.

21:04 - After this I think I would take

21:06 - you possibly to explore the

21:10 - history of our town.

21:11 - The Old Square Inn, an old time

21:13 - house in the community. If you

21:15 - arrive there, they will take you

21:17 - through and explain the history

21:18 - of that.

21:19 - We have restaurants, family

21:21 - restaurants everywhere. We have

21:22 - coffee shops.

21:24 - We have donut shops.

21:25 - We have bake shops.

21:27 - The two specialties that a lot

21:28 - of people like here in town are

21:30 - the Harvey's Barbecue, the best

21:32 - barbecue ribs that you can find

21:33 - anywhere.
