The Popular Silence of Siegmund Lubin

[2025] Before Hollywood, Pennsylvania played a role in shaping early cinema. The Popular Silence of Siegmund Lubin explores the story of Philadelphia filmmaker Siegmund Lubin and his bold approach to silent film. In one of the most remarkable stunts of the era, Lubin purchased two trains and staged a real head-on collision in Philipsburg, Pennsylvania. Tickets were sold to the public, and the dramatic crash was captured for use in several of his films. A historical marker now stands near the site of the event.
